It is certainly possible to have one, but I don't know of any available. There may be an issue with battery life, as breezer said. Other issues too, but all solvable.

There are PIC projects to convert any mouse into a cordless mouse, if you are so inclined check out the <A HREF="http://www.microchip.com/">microchip</A> site and look under microprocessors/12cxx family and the examples.

Does anyone know if there's such a thing as a cordless optical mouse? If so, can you give me the manufacturer's name/URL so I can look them up?
