Guyver - I'll be the first one to say that you know best if you disagree with me, but I'll venture the opinion that your don't really need

    2xVantec Slot Coolers (40CFM each)
    2xUnder the drive HD Coolers

in your rig #1 unless your case is poorly ventilated and you have stability problems without them. Your drives can get warm without problem, just not hot.

      Brian,

I won't disagree with you on the need or lack-there-of of the additional fans. They were there when I had the ABIT-BE6 and BE6-II motherboards with my PIII-650 running @ 866 with the Alpha Cooler and 133FSB. The system ran hot, and the ambient temp in the room they are in is about 73 degrees F (in the winter with the heat turned off). I added these for 2 reasons...
#1 - To remove the heat from the hard drives (originally installed on my Quantum Ultra 160 18GB 10K RPM drives)

#2 - To vacate the heat from a case that had insufficient ventilation (too many cables, as I was trying to do everything with one system)....

Now that I've broken things out to multiple systems, do I need all that extra air flow - probably not. Does it help - maybe not, does it hurt - I don't think so.

So for now, they can act as place holders and keep the case temp a little cooler than without.

      Like I said - I didn't argue with you...

walrusbonzo - Maybe I should have named the topic - Bragging rights? I don't know, But as to the Penis extensions... I don't think so... Nuff Said

Jammrock - I don't think I'll fall that far overboard - unless the lottery hits, and then it will probably be a nice EMC unit with a nice fibre-channel switch, several terra-bytes of disk, and about 2Gig of cache... Until then, my little RAID 0+1 will have to do...

I've just been on a kick to get rid of unnecessary fans.
