I draw the line at testing one graphics card a day...

Maybe I'll load my MAX in tomorrow and do it again...

(Sorry it wasn't done more scientifically. Good enough for government work. If you want better, go see Tomshardware or some equally excellent site)

Galvin - Just wanted to remind you:

Yes this means Matrox a small company, If I remember correctly they got a picture of all the empolyees in one picture.

Ok now you have ATI, 1,900 employees. Huge company, yet they can't make good win2K drivers, You think a huge company would have more man power, engineers, knowledge to get the job done faster vs a small company.

Nvidia, not sure what to say about them or their drivers. All people keep talking about is their next chip.

hardware is shit if the drivers suck.
Both have to be top notch.

Didn't anyone notice that he said...
Win2K: Does perform better than winME/Win9x with 256megs of ram or more?

Probably so. I'm just not as good at being an ****ole as you are.

I will agree that it is more stable, robust, capable than any other M$ OS ever released tho!

Simple fact, you use winME because the people that write drivers can't write good drivers for win2K. I'll say it here. If a game is performing worse in win2K than winME it's not the OS it's the drivers.

I rather have a real OS running on my machine so I stay away from winME.

Well I'm not an expert, but my ASUS 7700 performs well and looks as good as my MAX. The other NVidia card I've owned recently, a Prophet GTS sucked big time in display quality. Fast though.

NVidia's drivers are good enough to basically eliminate the difference between the two OSs I use.

You said "slower across the board"

So basically you're saying is that all games run slower on win2K and this is false. Drivers are the reason games run slower on win2K not the OS.

And for you to say it's slower you must be dual booting winME and win2K to make an up to date comparison.

and again you assume too much and yet I still haven't seen you come up with any proof to stand by YOUR statement which started this in the first place.

BTW I was refering to what card you are running. Not Dave's comment, after looking at some BS on Anandtech.

You implied in YOUR origional post that you were "stuck with my G400 until something better comes along". I was offering you the chance to locate a better card with a Bazillion FPS that would make you happy while I could end up with a G400 and get me away from my G200/VooDoo2 combo setup on my otherwise very versatile puter......

P.S. the Virge was an offer just to keep you running (and probably complaining) until your Bazillion FPS card came in.......

What are you people thinking? win ME and win2k are separate systems...win ME is the upgrade for 98 and reflects this in it's GUI,
win2k does not have a dos mode anymore, just a simulation for batch programming for those who really know how to use it, like system admin people at the corporate level. in short, win me is for '98 users, 2k is for nt 4.0 users. I'm sorry if this is a little too difficult for most of you, but this is the way people who build real systems and servers look at it. (or at least the good ones who don't get paid enough for unix...)

Well with ATI you lose refresh rate control, some games get stuck into 60hz, so I can't go with them, already tried them don't like it. That's what this thread was about.

Nvidia I think ELSA are the only ones that have a refresh rate utility, but they have no 64mb GTS version, also the Nvidia cards are really expensive. It's not worth keep spending money and losing money trying new videocards, I thought ATI would work well in win2K and it doesn't.

So yes I am stuck with G400 if I want to keep all the features and good quality win2K drivers it has.

Galvin - Did you try changing the default refresh in dxdiag?
