Rather funny this thread orginaly wasn't about the G400 but the sucky performance of the ATI radeon under win2K

Anyways my radeon will be sold in 5 days. I have been using my G400 will use it until
the G800 comes out wether people beleive it

Ok, Galvin, after thinking that Rags had brought calm to this thread and Jim only went and livened it up again!

It was really Dave and Paul (R) that started this up anyway, as Dave said that Win2k isn't a gaming OS. However, you said that Win2k is the gaming OS, and WinMe is the 'Windows for Dummies' of the line.
I can quite believe that Dave would take this as a personal insult! So maybe you should've toned this down a little, yet you came back and argued with Greebe (who even I, the mighty Pace doesn't usually argue with )

Win2k runs games, but if you've got a gaming 'box' then WinMe is the platform really. The games I run do not crash under either OS which means that WinMe is a viable gaming platform for me, as Win9x can be setup stable, likewise, Win2k can be setup unstable.

You want proof that Win2K performs worse than Win9x but I think you've already mentioned that a certain graphics card is taking a 50% cut! Hehe, however, you must realise, that you aren't as regular a poster in here as the other guys, so arguing with Dave, Joel, Greebe and Rags aren't going to make friends here!

Basically, Win2k isn't the fastest platform for games, but it is the best choice for professional workstation users, ie doing graphics work, etc, or even just using buggy software that doesn't have a line of code to delete win.com etc. It's more stable yes, but WinMe still has it's uses, a small fast gaming platform, an easy to use OS, and a general useful OS for home users - what it is targeted to.

NVIDIA drivers can be crap in Win2k as well, I've downloaded endless drivers for my TNT2 and they are all crap, only a clean install using reference Detonator 2's can I get stability, yet with Detonator 3's (reference or manuf) I get stability under 9x for a lean system.

Oh, and across the board doesn't mean every single thing is slower, just that on average they are. Saying that Win2k isn't slower than Win9x is false, it's the drivers is also a little wrong, if Win2k drivers are slow, then that's a bad point against Win2k.

I'm dualbooting Win98 and 2k again and can definately say that Win2k is faster in some areas, but slower in others (yes, games ).

Hardware support is better for me in Win98 as well, I get better printer, scanner, sound card and graphics cards drivers.

Anyway, this is only a short reply - I'm tired and I could go on!

To finish however, you do seem to be arguing for argue's sake. You don't know the differences all that well, you are basing it on a small percentage of OS usage and systems, so, make your point on what you know - and don't argue for the fun of it, you'll make more friends that way!

make peace unless someone else decides to
flame me once again. I had to re-read the
whole thread again. It started off fairly
well.

1. Then I said winME is made for people that don't know how to use a computer.
Which is true, but this doesn't mean
smart people can't use it either.
Joel read this as an insult and the flames
got underway.
2. I tried to defend win2K as saying it has
been around longer than win9X. then
Helevitia & Rags says that win9X is based
on DOS. Course I already knew this I used
dos from around 1985 1996. But I wasn't
comparing dos I was comparing the win95
that came out.
3. Then more and more flames start, I get
more and more pissed off, seriously pissed
off. From Helevita last flame I am sure
he/she was pissed off. So I flamed back.
If someone hits you hits you, you hit them
back.

Anyways this is the building blocks on how this thread got so huge so fast. I am willing to forgive and forget and say that I am sorry to the people I pissed off regardless of the last flame.

This goes for the other thread as well about the G800 rumor. Course I beleive it as fact now that I heard it from a matrox employee, but that's my opinion

Ok folks..

Your all right ok? Microsoft didn't put win2k on the market as 'gaming' platform, yet it can be just as fast depending on the drivers..just don't expect the same level of support for games as for winme or win98.

The result is the same: If your drivers suck for win2k and they don't suck so bad for winme/98 you will still be stuck with winme/98.
