Discman died. Looking for a good upgrade from that player... MP3 Player? CD that.

plays MP3's? I have checked into the NomadII, HipZip, and a few others... Do any of you out there have any of these products? I wouldn't mind hearing your experiences with MP3 players. Thanks in advance.

I bought myself the mpman cd player in the summer and for what it is (damn cheap, I got it for $115 ) it's an excellent product. It plays CD's, plays mp3's (not variable bitrate) and has a random function.

The problems are an almost inpenetrable interface, incredibly cheap construction and a vaguely urine coloured shell.

Did I mention that it was cheap and played mp3's?

what do you mean it cannot play "variable bitrate"?? Is that like mp3s recorded at 128 160 and 192...and therefore it will only play one of the mp3s??

Variable bitrate Mp3s are not encoded at any specific bitrate. So at certain parts it might be 128, others parts might be 160, etc..

That's the style.

The encoder basically decides which bitrate to use to make it sound best at that moment. Or something.

Plays up to 192 constant bitrate.
