Frankly, if they are designing the OS around one video card, Matrox or not, they are going in the wrong direction. Now, if it's just a case of Matrox being first with drivers, that's another story, don't bite the hand that is giving you free drivers.
Matrox was good about supporting BeOS when it first came out, they seem to like lost causes.
