Napster and firewalls, why can't we just get along?

Hokay, we got our cable modem lest week and managed on friday night to get it working with winodws ICS. Obviously I wouldn't trust windows to stop a damp paper bag-style attack, so we put Sygate personal Firewall on the cable box machine. It seems cool but I@ve found an annoying problem.

Napster doesn't really get on with the firewall, we have to keep unblocking more and more ports to get it to download from various people and noone is able to upload from my machine.

Is there a published list of ports that napster uses, or another work around for this, there's nothgin in the docs.

Any suggestions guys?

Im running zonealarm on the ics server w/no problems using napster w/rest of pc's

AFAIK, the only way Napster downloads would not work if outbound ports are blocked. Because the way NAT works, inbound is blocked by default, all outbound is allowed. Check your settings.

Ah well, as I thought it's the fault of over eager firewall software.

WE'll be using a Linux server as a firewall /router from tommorow, and that should prolly sort out my problems.

Might try getting zone alarm tonite though..
