There are no import taxes on PC stuff for about a year or more now, the VTA went down from 22% to 19% and yet prices are high

      Jason,
That's how I bought Holly's G400 Max, through Pauly. I had to send Pauly money (by money-order, which added 7,5% to the original amunt, plus another 2.5% to 5% for insurance and other fees... this was money only!). He then bought the card and shipped it to me.

If I were to have it shipped myself, would have to pay additional costs as tax and customs (the first is an additional 17.5 to 19% on top of the rest, and for customs I'd pay inbetween 50 and 100 guilder extra. (25 to 50 US$)

Ofcourse, I don't pay everything here in Holland with cash. I pay a lot with my bank-card. But that's just a bank-card, no added visa or mastercard possibilities, and I can only buy things in Europe with it at those places that support the logo on my card (which strangely enough IS Visa/mastercard )

If I want to buy the new Matrox G6500, I'll go to my own online Dutch shop. And ask them long enough until they buy one for me elsewhere, without the exra cost

Seems it's different and cheaper for business to buy stuff, than it is for just you and me customers.

      Jord.

Well Jord, consider this a standing offer - if you or Holly need an American expediter for your hardware purchases (or liquor, or what have you, heh) get in touch with me.

Actually it's called TVA (Taxa pe Valoare Adaugata) and yes I think it's VAT, my mistake, I remembered it in English as VTA.

in Dutch VAT is called BTW.... as if when you see prices, it says 300 guilders excluding BTW.

With BTW: by the way, you have to pay another 17.5%!!

At least all yor prices are in guilders. Here the majority are in dollars without VAT (for hardware, software, cars, TVs, VCRs...). So you have to add the 19% VAT to the price in $$$ and then transform it in our own curency when you make the payment.

The US arent the only one using feet n inches, gallons, fahrenheit, pounds ounces, miles etc etc.

Johnny foreigner is trying to force us into metric but we still buy our milk in pints, our fuel in gallons (although ours are bigger than yours!!) drive our roads in miles and MPH. I'm 6ft 14 stone and we all make note of when the weather goes above 100f.

Everyone has credit cards, and they're all at their limit!

I would but stuff from the states but it really isnt worth it. Most stuff is cheaper but when it gets here theres a 30% tax on it which sticks it way over the top. I had to buy a remote for my H+ card from the states. It came to $40. when it arrived i had to pay $12 in tax!
