    How to shop for DVD drive ?

    Hi,

    I stay in a country where both code 1 & code 3 discs are available(ratio about 50:50).
    1) Is the DVD region code protection restricted by the DVD-ROM hardware or the playback software ?
    2) There are many OEM brands available. Anyone has a recommendation ?
    3) [Probably this question is illegal, any replies posted will be treated as anonymous and will not be quoted in any way.] How to choose a hardware & software combination to bypass the code requirement ?

    its usually both the hardware ad software that is coded. Usually both are pretty easy to circumvent. Most DVD drives just require you to flash a RPC1 bios into them and they will play any region. The software or decoder cards usually require either DVDgenie or zone selector to release their region protection. All the firmware and software crackz are freely available on the net so seek them out.
    A good place to start would be www.dvdutils.com
    you can find out which drives are crackable and get the required firmware from there too.
