Mp# codec not available in my audio programs

I installed the Frauhoffer MP3 codec (in windows system folder) and it is not listed as an available format when I try to save music in audio programs like Sound Forge and Cool Edit...what did I do wrong...do some audio programs refuse any "outside" program codecs. really got my head scratching.

Does it show up in Multimedia properties in the Control Panel? Under Audio Compression codecs?

yes it does show up there....which is why I am stumped because it is not available in Soundforge or Cooledit...I hate computers

Have you tried the Fraunhofer "professional" codec that comes with DivX ;-)?

That Frauhoffer mp3 codec IS the one I have installed...but the audio programs do not recognize it...is there a "trick" or process in installing codecs..like reinstally audio programs? (Idid that already btw)

I never tried Soundforge or CoolEdit, but this mp3-codec works flawlessly here in Win98SE and Win2k with CDDA-grabbing programs like Audiograbber, CDex,... as well as with Virtual Dub for realtime-encoding the Audio when grabbing Video/TV.
Are you using WinME?

Try putting the codec in each application's folder. That's what i had to do with Audiograbber and Clean.

Hi bongo,

the act of puting the l3 codec in your system directory isn't enough.

Are you using the radium l3 codec? If so, use the installer to allow other programs to access it, if not, leave the codec in your system folder for now, and then goto control panel/sounds&multimedia/ click on the hardware tab, then select audio codecs, properties, then properties. Scroll down and see if you see the l3 codec on that list, if it's there click on it, then click properties, and then check the box that says "use this codec".

If either that doesn't work, or it doesn't appear on the list, then just plop the .acm file in your application's directory like Ginoslobber suggested
