"The Heat Sinks which allow the fan to be changed were tested with 23, 27 and 38 CFM fans"
So, you didn't test the orbs for sound?
I had in mind more of a total measurement with the heatsink attached, say an enclosed box with a meter inside. Measuring just the noise of the fan unattached is ok, but it doesn't tell you what impact the heatsink would have on it. Nit picky, I know.
The Hedgehog is the best so far. The Alphas and the Hedgehog have similar clips which are easier to use than the FOP or the Orbs.
For a Socket 370 or 7 I recommend the Hedgehog or the Alpha PAL 6035 with at least a 27 CFM fan(Y.S.TECH) get the Delta Fan if noise isn't a factor.
I should get two Heat Sinks from Swiftech and hope to get some new copper Heat Sinks from Blizzard in the next few weeks. I also have the new Taisol Heat Sink on the way.
Thanks Albpm,
Currently using the Alpha,Tiasol heatsinks I'm familiar with, are you getting the big bad voodoo or whatever it's called from Tiasol.
Their new heatsinks look good.
The clip design on the Tiasols is really good.
I don't know if you've seen them, but there's a small slot in which a screwdriver fits and makes installation a breeze.
I just picked up my Duron 700, and notice that the top of the chip is not a flat surface: there are several "surface-mount" looking things on top. Then at each corner of the chip are small foam/rubber pads.
Are there special heatsinks designed with grooves or channels to accomodate those surface-mount things, or will a regular heatsink with a flat surface work well with enough heatsink compound globbed inbetween?

There are no HS's with grooves milled into them... you would have to buy a copper cpu shim to improve cooling capability in this manner. Arctic Silver is the best HS compound we've found to date.
