dx8 diag direct draw test

I installed dx8 and now when I go to
dx diag and run the direct draw test it
doesn't work in full screen. The first
two tests work but the last one where you are supposed to see the bouncing
square in full screen does not.....I
just get a blank screen.
No error messages, my games and apps run fine.
1) should I be concerned?
2)what the heck does direct draw do?

p.s. I posted earlier about a dx8 problem but determined it was my new
home network software.(intel anypoint)

p.p.s.My g400 max is in my sons computer and working great.
The creative gf2 has very good 3d but 2d is terrible.
Still waiting for matrox's next.

yea, in the main I get a blank screen also & I'm using dx7a. I think the test goes ahead while the monitor is switching resolution so you miss seeing it.

DX8 here, V3 showed the fullscreen bouncing ball, the Radeon doesn't. Using the "special purpose" drivers for the Radeon. the monitor goes black and you are back on the desktop with it asking you if you saw anything.
