I'll still stick by 'Get IBM cause they is good'
Quantum used to have the fastest IDE drives on the market.
It's been a while since they held that title.
It was when they released the 2GB Quantum FireBall.
Nothing on the market could touch them!
HD's now a days are very much or a muchness, I don't think there is such a thing as a 'bad' make of HD, it's just some are better than others.
It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.
Trolls might not be quick thinkers but they don't forget in a hurry, either

Here's my 2 cents on drives (from a head manufacture's view point)...
WD has indeed cleaned up their act in the past year. They have also ended their contract with IBM because of sub par quality they were receiving from them....
IBM is kinda struggling now -- be careful about claiming they are the "best", because the "best" changes about every 6 months...
Quantum makes very good quality drives now as does Maxtor. By the way, these two companies have now merged....
My rig: P4 3.0GHz; Asus P4C800E; 1GB DDR 3200; AIW Radeon 9800 Pro; WD 120GB SATA; Plextor DVD burner; Liteon DVD reader; Audigy 2ZS; Logitech Z560 4.1; NEC FE991SB

Kid's rig: AMD XP 1600+; 512MB ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 60GB; Plextor CD burner; Sony DVD reader; SB Live; Cambridge 4.1 speakers; NEC FE991SB

      Other kid's rig: Athlon 2700+; ASUS A7N8X mobo; 512MB PC3200 ram; GF4 Ti4600; Maxtor 80GB; SB Live; Cambridge 2.1; NEC FE991SB; Liteon DVD-ROM

          I finally got it!

I got that quantum 30gb.... runs great! the difference in speed is noticeable... although not as much as i thought..

and as for sound... the old quantum was super quiet... this new one sounds like a freaking AK-47.... but for that price its worth it

I've only had two hard drives personally fail on me: a WD SCSI (what a toad! gee, what a surpise they got out of the SCSI market) and a Fujitsu. At work, we had 10 computers purchased at the same time from a supplier with either Seagate or Fujitsu hard drives in them. 4 of the 5 Fujitsu drives have now failed after 3 years; the Seagates are all fine.
