Plextor 8/4/32A and Windows 2000, help

Hi all,

I seem to have a problem with my Plextor CD-RW drive. In Windows 2000 it will not burn a CD, using either Nero Burning ROM 4.09.01 or Adaptec Easy CD creator 4.03. In Windows 98SE it works with either program. All other features work, but CD-R and CD-RW burning doesn't work. Could someone give me a solution. Thanks for the help. If I need to supply any other info please tell me.

Hi dsp,

I have the same burner with the same OS. I use the Plextor with Nero Burning Rom 5.0.0.3 and Clone CD 2.7.8.1.
Both programs are working great with the Plextor 8/4/32A. What are the problems you get.(empty buffer, ...)

Actually, when I installed Win2K, my CD burner kind of broke. It refused to burn audio successfully. Data was fine. I posted a thread and received many suggestions, and none helped my problem, so I gave up. After a while, I just fooled around with some settings and clocked my P3-750 back down from 825. After that, I could burn audio without any problems. One rule I've learned, is that whenever things aren't working right, or are unstable, un-overclock anything that's overclocked.

I see you're using an OLD version of Nero. Try updating it to the newest one, the older versions do not support Win2K. Also, I think that NT/2K don't come with an ASPI layer by default, but the burning programs should install one. ASPI is needed for burning CDs.

Well I clocked back my CPU to 850/100 Memory and still get the same error, its as follows (Data CD):

The version of Nero is acutally 4.0.9.1 which, according to Ahead supports Win2k and I can't upgrade to 5.X.X.X. Hope this info will help you tell me what my problem is, I'll try clocking it back to 650 just in case.

I have the same burner as Liquid Snake. I used to use Nero under win2k when i had firmware 1.05. When I updated the firmware to 1.07, I remember not being able to burn at all. I have updated the firmware to 1.09 and reinstalled EzCD Creator Deluxe 4.03. I have NOT installed DirectCD, which I believe was the culprit screwing with my CD device entries, and causing me to be unable to burn. The long and short of it is that I can now burn under win2k. Trying to recall if I have burnt audio CDs though. I have got one buffer underrun, happened when I was creating a data cd some of which was coming from the HD and some from the CD, it failed from the HD part go figure. This after copying 6 CDs on the fly (CD to CD with no buffering to HD first) Moral of the story is that DirectCD is evil.

I have an abit KT7 and Duron 700@850, and X-Gamer 5.1. And yes I concur with Liquid Snake, deoverclock when u r going to burn, it'll save you from being in the coastermaking business.
