  • Yamaha CRW2100FXZ Firewire CD Writer wont recognize media

A friend of mine bought one of those 16X firewire CD writers and it just wont recognize any CD-R disc. I've updated bundled Easy CD Creator to V4.03 and used 8X, 4X, 16X(even the one that came with the drive)to no avail. There is a firmware update on Yamaha website but only for SCSI and EIDE versions of drives.

It can read all the CD, CDR, CDRW without any problem so dont think there's any problem with the firewire adaptor and the cable connection. He can always get a replacement but just thought I ask.

    Thanks for the help...

The only way any blank media be recognized is to boot with the blank disc in the drive(yes, pretty stupid). Yamaha tech said this is a software issue and they are working with Adaptec on a new update. I am going to try with Nero and see if that helps.

Update: Nero won't work because it keep saying the demo version is only for SONY drives..huuh? In the midst of burning a cd with EasyCDCreator, it would all the sudden not recognize the CDR! WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT THIS DRIVE IS! BestBuy, you got a ten pound boat anchor aimming up your ass. This POS is going back! AAARRGGGHHH!

Well I know it's hardly any comfort, but it's only the FireWire version that shows this kind of problem.
I've had one month of using my SCSI 16/10/40 Yamaha unit without one failure or problem with it.
It cost one penny to cross, or one hundred gold pieces if you had a billygoat.
Trolls might not be quick thinkers but they don't forget in a hurry, either

Paul: What SCSI card are you using with your CDR? My friend went for the Firewire route because his comp's IDE channels are full and it already has firewire adapter installed. I've heard many praises for SCSI CdrDrives and I will suggest him get the SCSI version instead(if that computer has an empty PCI slot ).

          I'm using an Adaptec 2940UW.
Along with the SCSI Yamaha drive I also have a SCSI Pinoeer DVD and a SCSI Internal ZIP drive.
I don't think anything on this earth can beat going from SCSI CD/DVD ROM - SCSI CD-RW, the fact the whole sub-system is SCSI means the whole thing keeps in check.
I still highly rate the Adaptec SCSI cards, wont use any other brand in either my machines or workstations/servers for work.
