  • text smearing on both g450 16 sdr and g450 ddr

    hi,

i'm having a problem with black text smearing on bright or white background. i tried many configurations and setting, including trying it on 2 other computer and i'm still getting the same problem of text smearing. the problem of text smearing doesnt exsit on my other video cards.

so i thought i must have a bad card, i've gone out and bought another brand new g450 card, a 32mb ddr version this time. to my frustration, i'm still getting the same result of black text smearing on bright/white background.

i tried both cards on 3 other computers with their own monitor. all monitor are 19-21 inch with sony trinitron tube, and yet still, im getting the same darn problem.

i thought that i would illustrate my problem better with an image. the following gif is duplication in photoshop of what i would see on my g450 display adapters. the bottom word "matrox" is almost exactly what i see on my monitor, text smearing.

i have been trying to figure this out on my own for 1 week now, and nothing helped. i really appreciate your help.

Have you tried swapping video cables?

I'd check your monitor configuration. That kind of ghosting may be a misconfiguration.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

notice that i tried on several monitors, including a sony g500; ps500; ps 400. also that other video card that i have didnt have this problem.

but if there is any adjustment worth tweaking on my monitor, i'm willing to do it.

however, i believe it might have to do with the grounding. example, when i remove the heatsink grounding wire on the video card, i get these stripes of black accross my monitor. matrox said that the ground wire used to prevent static, but it seems that there are other purposes for the grounding wire on the heatsink too.

          any other ideas?

thai, what resolution are you running?

Does it still happen at a lower res?

i'm currently running at 1600x1200@85hz and 32 bits. i lowered the resolution down to 1024x768, and the smearing is still there, though, the smearing maybe less than at a higher resolution.

              thanks

Damn.. if that was happening with only 1 card, I would say that it had a bad DAC. But since its on 2 cards... I don't really know.
