  • Abit BX6R2 with 256MBwhichCPU P3 or Celery?

Hi ive got this abit bx6r2 with 256 ram just sitting around doing nothing. I wanna slap a either a p3 or celeron on it, i know for sure this moboard does 124 bus speed but whenever I try for 133 it wont post.. the old processor was a p3-450 which subsiquently
    got fried in the process
so my question is another 450 (with what kind of heatsink?) or a slotkit and celeron and heatsink? i want bang for my measly dollars but i also want some high level megs per second cause im thinking of using this as a video to cd burner for my old (and new vhs tapes and dvds

Since your MoBo seems to handle an FSB of 133MHz, you should go for a P3-600E FC-PGA, an ABIT SlotKET!!! ...

That combo lets' you fiddle with VCore in 0.05 volt steps and thus it shouldn't bee too hard to reach 800MHz

    Cheers,

windigo - I`m afraid, you will not succeed in getting 124 MHz FSB with the Celerons, because of all Intel CPU`s being clock locked these days.
Even with a FC-PGA Celeron with 533 MHz (x 8 multiplier) you would get approximately 1 GHz @ 124 MHz FSB which most of the Celerys out there can not handle.

I have no experiences with certain PIII CPU´s but I`m sure someone else can help out there.

My BX6R2 is at 133 FSB, everything is fine except for the BIOS on my G400 getting corupt every 20 cold boots or so. At 129FSB everything is fine.

Oh, at P3 750 Slot1 with an Alpha P3125 cooler

the BX6 r.2 can run fine at 133Mhz itself. I'm currently running a Coppermine 700 @ 933Mhz with this board.

mui bueno, muchos gracias amigos, i'm gonna start sniffing around for the lowest price on 750e or 800e and the slotket
(7.5 times 133bus equals a very happy camper
8.0 times 133bus equals a quivering lump of ecstasy
but im leaning towards the 750e just to be even more cheap
rightto on the alpha ill do some reading up on the p3 cooler situation thanks Maggi Ali Dzeus and MK for your suggestions have a good one this weekend
