  • Radeon2 better than Geforce3

    Found this:

    http://www.techweb.com/wire/finance/...V20010305S0005

The very last paragraph is the interesting one.

I hope the G800 (or TCFKAG) is even better.

What's with all this disgusting loyalty I see here? Everyone hoping the g800 will come out of nowhere and beat nvidia or ATi (not damn likely) What has any of these companies done for you but take your money?

I just buy the best all round feature packed, best bang for your buck card no matter which manufacturer. I've owned 3d cards from s3, 3dfx, nvidia and ati. Loyalty gets you nothing but the odd burn.

Well, first off, I wouldn't call our loyalty disgusting, but if you feel disgusted, there's no one holding you back from leaving this nice place ...

Secondly, most of us are just waiting for a new card from Matrox, because we prefer quality over quantity, ie. we don't accept low visual quality for the price of high performance and/or lack of support.

I an absolutely ITCHING to return to the Matrox fold, after using a Radeon and being turned cold by ATi's nonchalant attitude to drivers and support.

I really hope that when I crave a new video card I wont be stuck between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea of ATi and NVidia.

ummmm, the radeon doesn't have low visual quality. The nvidia cards are little low I agree. And about the ATi driver support, what a bunch of bs they have been "leaking"
drivers at a very high pace for the last few months, every time I turn around there is a new leaked driver for the Radeon cards. I mean c'mon you guys blindly defend Matrox even though they have no T&L or texture compression. You say you "want quality over quantity" well wheres the 32 bit rendering quality on the Matrox cards??? their frame rates just plain suck.

                      Perky,
One of the reasons the people here own Matrox stuff is because FPS != quality. Quality means that my colors are bright, everything is sharp, and my computer does not give me a headache after a long day. Games? Sure I play games, but I also write papers, code, and do hardware design.

Leaked drivers don't count as support, and ATI still has cards that they don't support under w2k.

And I think I'll be quite happy with the next thing Matrox has to offer.

I don't know where you came from, but you can go back. We love to discuss things here, but you've done nothing but troll since you got here. If you want a flame war, go to the nVidia forums, or ATI, but not here.

                        Perv,

ATI's driver support is a bit better in win9x, but what about the other OS's? I mean all I require are stable, fast drivers for doing desktop work in win2k. ATI has not delivered on this point yet.

As far as visual quality, my Radeon had a terrible text clarity problem on my Sony G400. This is a well documented problem, and I have not seen this effect on any of my Matrox cards.

Its pretty well known that ATI can't write drivers worth crap. They've had a _lot_ of driver snafus (remember the ATI MAXX card.. never worked in Win2k) and it pissed off a lot of people.. and it looks like they are continuing the problems again. Even the Win98 drivers, while fairly stable, have a bunch of the extra cool features of the Radeon gpu disabled because the ATI driver team hasn't gotten the code written to support the hardware yet.

As for image quality, yes, I think the Radeon is quite good.. close to Matrox, but not quite there yet. If ATI could only write good drivers, they would be good competition for NVidia, and I'd probably buy the RadeonSE instead of waiting for who knows how long for the next Gxxx card.

But for now, I'm ust waiting for M to release something.. and to be honest, I'll be somewhat upset if the card isn't up there in terms of speed for games.. yeah, I like image quality and all, but image quality doesn't mean crap when the card isn't fast enough to keep the graphics from loking like a slideshow.
