A question...is it not possible to obtain
a bus speed of 133MHz when using the Abit SlotKET or am I hardware-limited to my P2B-L's maximum 112MHz bus speed? I also have an Asus motherboard (rev 1.02/ bios 1013b) and after hearing of your success, I am considering a new socket 370 CPU/SlotKET combo...(HA, take that Asus!).
Also, the 2-3,1-2,1-2 bus settings only give me...guess what..110MHz..

Even so, the sound of a Coppermine 850
running @ 952MHz sounds acceptable

I hate to say it, but 112MHz is max for old ASUS boards, despite of any SlotKET settings.

But as you say already said, a jump from 66.6MHz to 112MHz is quite pleasing and equals to a gain of 68% ...

Finally got my data backed up and tried to push the FSB. I could run fine at 103 MHz but the system would lock up quickly at 112 MHz (bring up browser or Q3A). I suppose I could yank some of the adapters to see if that calms things down. What else should I try? I don't know of an easy way to modify the voltage. The temperature is fine. I probably should just go out and buy the PIII/850 and not mess with o/c'ing on this setup.

Hi Xortam,

is it a Slot1 or FC-PGA CPU ?

If it's the latter, you should have some VCore option on your SlotKET and I'd say that you should up the VCore to 1.85 for a test.

No, its a Slot 1 (did they even ever make a FC-PGA 450?). I forgot that I need to update the BIOS and see if that does anything but I doubt it. Its been a while since they released a new BIOS but the German site has been posting Beta versions: I could risk trying the latest Beta.

Yeah, I noticed the updated SCSI BIOS a while back. I wanted to try that out and see if it finally lets me hook up my old Wangtek DAT (always hung before, even by itself). I had my buddy use the previous Beta version on his P2B-LS so he could get his new 75 GB 75GXP Deskstar drive working (now has two). I'll try the latest BIOS some time today. I'll think I'll also go out and try to hunt down the 850 while I pick up some tax software. The SlotKET!!! may be a little tougher to find but I'm sure its in one of those 3,000 shops we have in the bay area.

I'd say you should go for a FC-PGA Coppermine of your desire (for example that 850E) and the Abit SlotKET!!!, since the latter will provide you with several VCore settings in 0.05V steps.

The latest beta BIOS releases from ASUS are pretty stable and the ones that have SCSI onboard, get an updated SCSI BIOS (3.0) too.

I got the goods! Went to the shop that built my system two years ago. PIII/850 FC-PGA $215 USD, Abit SlotKET!!! $12 USD. It will be a couple hours before I can get around to the upgrade but I'm jazzed.

I've updated my BIOS to 1013.007 (final). I think I'll hold off until morning to put in the upgrade. I checked out Intel's Sspec info and was concerned with a footnote on my CPU. I have an SL4CC S spec which has the note "Vcc Core Voltage - 1.70 V/Requires a motherboard with a split plane for the Vcc": Is this anything to worry about? Pack date is 1/18/2001, Philippines, FPO/Batch is 7042A203.

Good to see your success !

Your system might not post at 1.7 VCore, thus I suggest you up the VCore to 1.8 and start tweaking from there on ...

Just set the SlotKET to default FSB (auto detect) and adjust the according jumpers for VCore.

BTW Maggi ... I popped the upgrade in the other day. Left the SlotKET at default (voltage and FSB) and popped it in. Powered up the system and POST shows PIII/850 and Windows boots right up. Surprised me. Checked w/ probe and it says I'm running at 1.7v. Ran through some Q3A benchmarks and felt the HS ... barely warm. Got some good improvements with the 3DMark2000 benchmarks but was disappointed that it didn't do much for my 1024 and 1280 Q3A benches. I'll be posting some results in the benchmark forum in the next day. Overall, I don't really notice the difference. Maybe when I start doing some serious number crunching (e.g. flask).

Question -- how do I read the CPU temperature? I assume I can't get the data off the CPU pins (using the on-die temp diode) w/ this MB. Should I use a P2T-cable like on my SECC2 package? Where exactly would I place it?

I also noticed that Intel upped the default VCore on a friend's Celeron, but wasn't too sure whether that was just an incident.

About the temp read out, it works internal o my MoBo, but I also added a thermal diode between the PCB and HS, as close as possible to the die.

Btw, did you upgrade your ASUS BIOS yet ?
I'm not tto sure, but I think they also updated the micro´code for indentifying Celerons ...

What do you mean upped the default? My MB provides 2.0v as per spec for the Katmais (was running P!!!/450). My Cu FC-PGA 850 is speced for 1.7v and that's what the SlotKET is delivering.

Where are you getting that temperature info? I don't see anything reported in my BIOS or in Probe. I wouldn't expect to since I haven't hooked the thermistor to the CPU TRCPU connector. I picked up a thermistor this afternoon so I'll be installing it soon.
