  • I need a new CPU!

my K6-1 300mhz CPU is absolutely terrible... i cant do anything with it... its gone obsolete (well it has for a while now)... and as u can see in my specs... its a *huge* bottleneck for my performance... especially in 3d gaming....

so, in good terms of recycling, i was wondering if anyone had an old K6-2/K6-3 that they do not need, that they can send to me....

if u do, plz mail me at nehal@canada.com or reply to this thread..

    thx

I have a K6-2 500MHz. However, I am not sure if it is working or not, because the only motherboard I can test it in is fried. I'm not sure if only the mobo is fried, or if the CPU is fried as well.

(edit) Oops, I got confused. It's not a 500MHz, it's a K6-2 333MHz So I don't think it will help you much in terms of performance.

Track down a K6-2+ 500 or a K6-III+ 450 and overclock to 500. About as good as yer gonna get for a SS7.

        K6-III+/450 ($50+)from www.pcliquidator.com
        K6-2+ 450 ($45+)and 475 ($50+) from www.tigerdirect.com

The K6-2+ 500 might be pretty tough to track down (I got mine, though...)

Heh, my ICQ crapped out, so you didn't get a reply from me. I already know that the mobo is dead, because I put a P166 in it a while ago. No POST, no beeps, nothing. I don't have another SS7 mobo to test it in. I think the CPU may be dead as it and the mobo were the victim of a failed overclocking attempt by my not too bright friend.

You should see the PMMX 200 that an idiot overklocked untill it literly exploded!

I found the Cpu laying around at work with a big burned hole on the underside.

Later i found the mainboard with a big burnmark in the socket.

Much later a customer with a identical system came in and I got a chanse to see what kind of HS the "Uber klocker" had on his CPU when it had blown!

That small HS wouldent have cooled a 386! :-)

The customer was lucky, in his case a new HS saved the day!

Get a Duron+mobo. It´s lightyears better and cheap.

Get a Duron 750+Abit KT7A (non RAID) and you got a very fast combo. Maybe some new ram also should be in place. Can also be overclocked to 1GHz.
