Does anyone know if which services I can stop from automatically starting-up? And will this lead to a performance boost?

    er...does that make sense?

    cheers!

Just change them all to manual, reboot, see which ones has started up and change those back to automatic.

Here's a tweak guide that takes you through all the services:

Has anyone seen a "hack" to force the creative liveware drivers to run as a service? Supposedly the people who have done so got a nice performance boost...

Take this site with a large grain of salt. He bases his recommendations on very limited experience and his own system.

For the most part it's good info, but several of the services he advises setting to Manual will either crash Win2K or stop it from loading in certain configurations.

As with most tweak, you take your chances. I used the info at 3dspotlight on my machine and with my setup it worked just fine. What can I say?

Thanks! I have played about and the start0up time seems shorter which can only be a god thing! HoweverI have noticed this message in the system event viewer:

Does anyone know what that means?

                  Cheers again!

I've seen that so I presuming your doing internet connection sharing. The only thing I put that down on my machine (Since it's intermittant) is that the other machine on the network is off or still hasn't got further enougth along on it's boot up to ask for or obtain and ip address.
Of course I could be talking bullshit. However everything seems to work okay if I get that error or not so I ain't to worried.

                      Isochar,

Yes it is possible to run Live!Ware as a service (not the drivers themselves). This will not only gain you a speed boost, but a compatibility boost as well.

But for me, it's moot as the Live! is leaving this machine, never to return.

P.S. If you don't already have Live!ware 2k installed, just leave it. If you do, e-mail me and I'll try to hunt up that link (it's very non-kosher-with-creative, as you might imagine).

I am having a few problems with my installation of Win2K...

                        Number one

It BSODs every now and then with the following message:

                        Driver_IRQ_not_less_or_equal Uhcd.sys

Anyone know how to fix this?

                        Number two

I think this may be related to the first one!

The first one is usb so you may have a conflict with the scsi card or you may need updated drivers. Check to see if the scsi card allows irq sharing if it doesn't you'll have to do card shuffle.
