When I phoned up, I had to be rung back by a supervisor (very odd behaviour I thought) who explained what the package really was: The TV package we now have would be completely cut, so that to get Sky One back (which we watch a lot) we have to pay another £5 a month, though it comes with lots of other channels that we may or may not be interested in. They supply the cable modem, and charge us £25 to wire it in, but it's only wait for it: 64kps.
When you do the sums we would pay about what we do now. We get probably get the same channels though she couldn't exactly tell me what. We currently dial into other ISPs on our second phone line and my wife dials direct into her work network on it occasionally.
If we gave up our second phone line for a "slow" cable modem we'd have to lock up the primary phone line (rarely) for dialups to other ISPs and Jackie's work.
Sorry for such a long post,
Pros and Cons
Pro
We get 24 hour constant access, though probably not much faster than our 56K modems?
(This may be useful if we want to hook webcams/security/home control online)
Con
We lose a dedicated modem line that we hook into work, different ISPs etc
Thoughts anyone?
Dave
