Anyone have any good recommendations for web hosting, I mean real web hosting for say something like the MURC. I've found one good deal so far, problem is the disk space, the MURC takes up around a gig and a half at the moment with the driver and forum archives, the package I've been looking at provides 350MB.

Anyone know anything about advertising? If I go it alone I'm gonna need financial help to cover the costs and although the site does at present have ads that's all GA I've never had anything to do with it.

        Have a look at this

        http://www.fdd.co.uk/serveroffer.htm

Then all you need to do is persuade some other people to host on your Server and charge them enough to cover the cost
When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.

Ant, What kind of bandwidth do you pull??

I know of one or 2 places that will be good..
maybe in a month or two we can work something out.
(yes it will be linux, and b) no It wont be restricted).

Give me a yell if you want to know more,

ps. this is a propper hosting,.. not a cable modem.
You wanna piece of me? here, *crunch*, o.k. not _that_ bit.

Why does it need to be *nix? UBB will run on Win32, and as you're a FP user you'll be able to take advantage of NT/FP extensions

As for advertising, I've yet to find anything that would anywhere near cover a website's costs, never mind think about profit However, I'm sure if you look hard enough you could find something!

I wanted a *NIX as the new site will make extensive use of Perl scripts, I know NT can do Perl but I've had nothing but problems getting them running whereas on a *NIX box they just ran straight away no problems.

Well as far as advertising goes all I know is that at present the site pulls in over 30K ad views per day for GA. Ads would go some way at least to help trying to cover costs if I go it alone.

I sent you this data as well through ICQ, but still. This is easier to read as well

                web hosting options:
                http://www.gannonnet.co.uk/
                http://www.nzservers.com/ (although only 500Mb)
http://www.enet21.com.au/ (MS ENterprise Plan offers 2500Mb, just the price is a bit steep I guess)

I searched www.dmoz.org with web hosting. Gives you a better oversight on what's out there. Do check these sites if you have some spare time
