ABIT HotRod 100 Pro?!?

Question: Does anyone have one of these that they no longer use/need.

My ABIT BX133-RAID motherboard bit the bullet this weekend (after running a 1GHZ PIII and 4 HD's and G400MAX and 425Watt powersupply with apparently 3 cooling fans failing - after my Fiance had turned off the AC in the Apt. I came home and the apartment was 92F, and the case temp was well over 100F.) Yikes!!!

I've swapped components around and verified that it is the mobo - no beeps/blips/sqwaks after trying to boot with no video, mem, or other components installed...

I really do not want to have to buy another BX133-RAID board just to salvage some data from the 4 hard drives done up as a RAID 1+0 set.

If anyone has one, or knows where to get one cheap, please let me know...

BTW - I think it's time to sample the AMD side again...

Looking at a 1.33Ghz 266FSB Athlon, with an ASUS A7M266, with 256MB PC2100 SDRAM.

If you need a card, I have an Abit HR100-PRO available.

However, this might not help get your data back. The Card will have to be configured, and I think doing that destroys the boot sectors of the drives...I dunno, I've never tried a cross-array configuration to see if there is any corruption.

Just slapped one together just as you described. No time to start fresh so did the delete Enum thing with my KT7A RAID op system and fired it up. Got some DMA conflicts in device manager but otherwise no serious problems. All PCI slots full. Got a promise RAID controller, SCSI card, SB Live, H+, 3COM nic and of course my trusty G400. Life is good. Could push it to 150MHz at stock voltage settings, 151 was a wall.

Need a new CPU cooler too, though the one I got with the retail CPU (looks exactly like a Volcano II) is servicable for now, 43C/49C. My Alpha PAL6035 actually runs 1-2C warmer than the Volcano (only has the 27CFM YTech fan), and replacing the thin fan on the Volcano with the YTech is no gain either.

Found my UMAX SCSI scanner does not like a 133FSB board, Athlon or P III according to their site. Get scanner link failure. UMAX has a patch for it, but it won't work with my 2940U2W card on the Ultra or Ultra2 connector. It is for their Domex ISA/PCI cards. Time to upgrade that too I guess...Epson, here I come.

Guyver; maybee the voltage regulators on the mobo burned ? did u check that ?

I just received the last of the components for my new system (basically the same as yours, SCompRacer. I'm looking into getting the clock multiplier put on the board (look on the front corner by the mounting hole in front of the RAM sockets to see the original location). This requires replacing two surface mount resistors (this is why I say I'm looking into it instead of saying I'm definitely doing it) and adding in the dipswitch.

I was wondering if either of you had considered this same mod, since it supposedly greatly increases the overclocking potential of this motherboard (when used with these processors- mine is a factory unlocked 1.33 AXIA stepping)?

I may once the newness wears off. Since I am not really much of an O/C at heart, the effort involved may keep me from doing it. Where do you get that the needed components anyway?

It is the way to go though. You'll get much better results than just the "+1" way.

BTW, which cooler did you get for your CPU?

Can you diagram or give a short description of how to test them still attached?

guyver .. i'm not that expert at electronics neither, all i can say is use the old common methods like smelling :P, running the power on and check the regulators with ur hands and see if they r getting hot.
most regulators r big black IC's with 3 legs.
maybee there r other types for ur board .. dunno.

Sorry - I had already tried that... There were no smelly areas, nothing looks burned/cooked. I've seen chips go up in smoke, and nothing is discolored at this point. It's a bit of a mistery at this point. I was hoping for some logic probe/voltmeter ideas...
