Unfortunately, that's how things are. Some of the best products always die because of bad support.

Yes I agree Diamond Are very bad.. I Mentioned a list of companies these all make/sold cards based on the Vortex 2 chipset.. Techworks, VideoLogic and multiwave(n-appliance/innovatech/buffalo these dodgy gits need a lot of names) were all generic to the Aureal (which were released later) cards.. I think only the MX300 difered due to it's optical-out(tos/link) being an add-on card(MX25 i think). Apologies if I was not so clear.. My point was if any of these companies (some still selling vortex 2 based cards in the UK at least). Devolped a Win2k drv..it would extend this product into a wider market.. I doubt greatly that tweaking a driver is in anyway comparison to the costs of initial development and logistics.. Even when the tweak required had already been done on the Win9X drv's..

What is the big problem ..id windows 2K simply so difficult to be compatiable with.. or is the user base for this product in win2k just not make it feasible!

+ I would pay for a driver..within reason obviously... Think about it.. I want a card just like the one I already have!.. which works in win2k... I've just payed for a license upgrade to get a CAD program working in win2k..Why not to extend the capability of my Sound Card?

I've found a little more determination to have a good last shot at this!! This page I just found explains how to use NT4 Drivers for PCI devices. I remembered the NT 4 drivers worked great.. SO It can't hurt to try?? Pls, say if you know different..

Of course, Creative bought all of Aureal's assets. They could support the Vortex 2.

There still is at least one company which is making a Aureal-based card: Turtle Beach. But they don't have W2k drivers either. Their last driver revision for Win9x was in Dec, so give 'em credit for that.

Too bad nobody filed an anti-trust suit against Creative.

Sorry if I was overly sarcastic and not particularly constructive, Easty. While I think Aureal's financial difficulties went beyond Creative's specious lawsuit, it did appear to a lot of us that Creative's strategy for dealing with their primary competitor was to sue Aureal into bankruptcy. It upset a lot of people here, and I'm still a little irked.

I really hoped Guillemot would have succeeded in their attempt to purchase what was left of Aureal. After buying Hercules, they actually updated drivers for the Hercules TNT2 Ultra before their own board. Now, I know NVIDIA was responsible for most of the work, but it demonstrated a commitment to customer service and support that we really haven't seen from Creative.

                    I was venting.

No Luck as yet! March 16 2001, 6:39 PM

I tried the NT installation method which I posted earlier, not positive results I'm afraid.. although I did learn some stuff about Win2K.. I got the drivers installed.. Just at the point where they kick in and the videologic Picture is displayed my machine was reset.. When rebooted it says the drivers are installed but not working.. So I'm back onto the Videologic 2500 drivers now.. These are the only ones I have not tried for a while.. I remember when I last run Win2k.. I tink I just upgraded from NT4.. with the NT4 drivers installed and everything was good.. Don't want to do that just to try this out though!!

Anyone got Any other Ideas.. I dont really wanna buy an SB live!!

Some chap has unsupportedly satted " its due to the Bus mastering, Win2k Automatically disables this on the VOrtex 2 and this needs to be enabled.. within Sandra 2001 it states the aureal card to be capable of using Bus MAstering. But I cannot find where it tells you if its on or off.. If it's off.. How do I turn it on??

                      Anyone??

Try this. It works for me.

                        WE both have.
                        VIA chipset mobo's
                        Matrox gfx, G400MAX(you) and G400DH(me)
Vortex 2 sound cards (mine is MX300)

What I have experienced is that with Matorx drivers > 5.14 (WHQL) my sound suddently stops. Either after about ½ hour or less.
So if you don't need the latest drivers to run some proggy then the WHQL drivers might work for you.
I'm also using the Vortex AU8830 Windows 2000 driver version 4.12.01.2559

                        Hope this helps....

Installing the 5.04 matrox drivers has really made it better.. I initially thought it had fixed it.. I got about 3 rounds of counterstrike and about 45 mins instead of about 3 secs.. TP, Can you tell me a few more details pls. What PCI slot does your Vortex sit in and what version of the Via 4in1 drivers do you use (My vortex is in slot 5(most distant from the agp slot and I use the 4in1429v(a) of the via drivers)... I think this is very related to the Bus Mastering of the G400.. If I disable the bus mastering the sound never drops.. But the Machine becomes too retarded to play games!!

                            I've also performed a little patch from Microsoft... C This " http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athl...n2k_patch.html "

                            Thanks Loads..

My Vortex2 card is in a non IRQ shared slot Here is the layout of my mobo.
                              PCI slot:
                              1. Shared with AGP (Empty)
                              2. Non-shared (Vortex2)
                              3. Shared with 6 (Empty)
                              4. Shared with 5 (PC-TV)
                              5. Shared with 4 (Network)
                              6. Shared with 3 (AHA-2940)

I use Via 4in1 v4.24 (If I remember correctly, and I don't think that it matters)

                              w2k sp1 ofcourse.

What you might do is make sure that the Vortex2 isn't sitting in a IRQ shared slot.
My Matrox drivers are the 5.14 (WHQL) ones.

Drivers after this release ****s up my sound

                              Mayby some help here http://www.3dsoundsurge.com

Let me know how it turns out.
