Now guys, while I'm not here as long as you are, I think you should calm down. You disagree, fine. This here is a FORUM, it's made to discuss - what kind of discussion would there be if everyone had the same opinion? No need to be rude about it.

I suggest Rags read my post above, I've translated the most important facts from the tecchannel article for you, and I don't want to put work into somethin to be ignored.

And remember: There are MANY nVidia based cards out there, and some of them have picture quality that you won't even call picture quality, but some obviously offer better quality, and even different models from the same manufacturer have different picture quality - the V7100 had not-so-good quality, as had all the radeons except for the 64 MB version.

So I think it's safe to say when you buy a matrox card you KNOW you get a sharp, clear picture with vibrant colors for your money, while with nVidia based cards, it's kind of a lottery, but there are nV boards that offer at least a decent picture.

      Rubank,

I didn't call you any names either and didn't imply you were an nVidiot.

I got mad because you were telling me how to post.

I have no problems with people disagreeing. But when I post what I see, and you come in and say geez, don't you people know how to adjust your monitor, you gotta give some of us more credit than that. Most of the users here are more intelligent than the average user, please treat us as such.

Rubank, I have a question: What do you mean by adjusting the monitor? IF (and I don't say this is the case with any brand of VidCard) the video output of a certain card is bad, how can adjusting the monitor make it better?

          AZ,

I certainly haven´t claimed that a card capable of only bad output can look good with a monitor adjustment, but a card with good output won´t necessarily look good on a certain monitor if they don´t match. In this case adjusting, e.g. the colour temp, might result in a good picture.
Let me give you an example:
I bought a new Compaq 19" monitor that with my card at the time displayed perfect sharpness right out to the edges even at 1600x1200, it was like watching an LCD, but the colours were a bit off, especially in the red zone. With adjustment it got better, but not good enough for me. I gave the monitor to my son, who then had a Voodoo3, and with that card the colours were o.k. (as was sharpness in 2D). I went back to my old monitor, which gave perfect, vivid colours with the proper adjustment, but less sharpness than the Compaq monitor. Would the conclusion be, that I had a bad card? No. I still have that monitor with my Radeon and this still goes: perfect colours but less than perfect sharpness. But as I do some photo editing, colours are important and I don´t want to shell out for new monitor again.
My point is, that there might be more to final output than meets the eye (!) and that tweeking the monitor settings might give a better a result, and that good picture quality is not only a matter of sharpness.

You're right here, but colors can be tweaked via calibration soft/hardware (which came with my Millennium, btw!), and this is definately something you want when working with pictures anyway, IMHO.

You cannot, however, make a bad monitor, bad card, or even a bad cable look good with just adjusting settings, you can make even the greatest equipment look bad when you don't know what you're doing though

I agree that you have to find a good combination of monitor and card (and maybe even cabling), and that finding it can be difficult, but having a matrox card IMHO helps somewhat, as you won't have to worry about the signal the monitor gets (this MIGHT be the possibility with nVidia cards too, but with Matrox you can be SURE you have good output, while nV based cards vary GREATLY in output quality!)
