  • W2K AS & ProxyServer Q!

Has anyone here setup a proxyserver with w2k Adv. Server? I used winproxy on the same computer (same network) with w2k pro but I can't get it to work with A.S. and I need it to share my internal ADSL modem!

I have tried 5 diffrent proxy programs today and non of them work! They all give me the same error mes. that the IP (& port) are already in use!

Dynamic IP's are not an options so ms ics is out of the Q!

I use winroute with w2k server and it works fine, has a small proxy built in, I haven't tried 'dedicated' proxy servers as such, and I use static ip addresses

      Hope that helps

Same thing with that program! I dont think the problem is with the software but with the server setup! I dont "need" a proxy server I just need to be able to share the internet connection on my computer! I have tried the remote access and routing but cant get it to work!

Ok, it seem's that the config are the same for pro and server and adv. server. So here's how to start microsoft proxy. First go in start->settings->network and dial-up connection. Click on the lan card or the modem u use to access the net and go in it's properties. In the sharing tab, check the checkbox. Then there's a setting button at the bottom of it, make sure that no application or services are listed or checked. When you'll close that dialog it will say something like "The IP adress of your other lan card has been changed to 192.168.0.1 for ......". Just open the other lan card and reset the settings as you wanted. Then go in the services and make sure that this service is running "Internet Connection Sharing".

Tell me if that doesn't work.

                            Spazm,

I think he didn't want the build in mini dhcp server that comes with ics. Well now he has got it running anyway...

Strangely enough ics doesn't have to be authorized. This doesn't matter if it's at home and there is no other dhcp server running on his network but if you want windows connection sharing without the dhcp service, you have to configure NAT through 'routing and remote access' (Win2k server or A.S.). If he follows the steps in the help file, it shouldn't be hard to do. (But on the other hand, it's a mickey soft product )

btw: ICS is a non configurable version of win2k nat and it isn't a proxy (it's more a routing type thing).
