  • odd codec issue

    Hey folks,
I installed what should be the proper codec, but this file won't play in mplayer2 (v 6.4). The weird thing is, it will play in the original media player. How do I get MP6.4 to play it?

    TIA
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

    Wombat,

Is it possible that you don't have the correct codec installed or didn't install it properly? If you right-click on the file (I'm assuming it's an .AVI file), go to PROPERTIES and then PREVIEW, you should get a message saying what codec is required.

I use WMP 8.0, which will automatically
    download/install new codecs.

Here's a link to a good spot that may help.

The weird thing is, the codec IS installed. And if I go to Preview, the file plays. But it's using the old, original mplayer, and I want v6.4 to play it. But 6.4 says it can't find the right codec.

            Then it's not registered correctly.

            What codec is it?

                Hi Wombat,

I somewhat have a similar prob when playing back MPEG-2 clips ...

Mediaplayer 6.4 forgets every now and then that I have the Cinemaster engine installed and then I usually run the old Mediaplayer once, goto its device tab and choose the according device to open up the suspect media file.
(in my case it was the Cinemaster SW engine and in your case I think it could be either "Active Movie" or "Video for Windows")

After that procedure I can again use a double-click to play those files back with Mediaplayer 6.4.

                Annoying, but stupid ...
