Paddy....are you joking? The 2100s is probably the worst RAID card ever made. I thought it had been discontinued. I encourage you to read around the discussion forums at Storagereview before wasting your money on that POS. A single one of your drives on a 29160 will perform MUCH better then RAID on that card. Don't get me wrong; I have several Adaptec cards around here - I'm partial to the dual-channel 39160 that my X15 is attached to, but anything but that card. John

My impression from reading around Storage Review was that no one was happy with the performance of that card. If I recall correctly, someone did extensive benchmarking and showed it was a really dog, of which most people at that forum concurred. Also, some very knowledgeable folks were suspecting, and showing data, that it wasn't even really functioning as utltra2/LVD, but UW!

Paddy, I suggest you post in the StorageReview General Discussion form with exactly what you want to do and what you're considering. I'm sure you'll excellent advice.

Hmm.. thanks for the warning....

I'll post over there and get some more data...

I feel I must point out that this is a freebie...it may not be the best, but if it is better than what I have to start with then I'll get it....

I have a choice of the following cards:

Adaptec 2100S SCSI RAID
iWill 2936 UW
Tekram DC-390U/F

The devices I am going to put on them are:

4x IBM DNES 8GB SCSI drives
PlexWriter 12x10x32
UltraPlex 40xMax

I dont want to spend any money on them so I just have to figure out which combination is best (or least crappy )
