Monitor shopping

Hey folks,
I'm moving, and I'm considering selling the old monitor and buying a new one. I have a Sony G420, but I'm considering a 21". Just looking at the Sony's, I see e500,g500,f500. Can someone update me on these monitors?

Hmmm, never saw those before. Do you have one? Also, does anybody have one of the newer Iiyama's?

I'm trying to spend about $7-800 on a 21", or I'll probably just get a 19" for now (that will make a good 2nd monitor in the future, hehehe).

I didn't realize that Cornerstone has a graphics card that is based on the G450.

Yes I have one (50/95) and I showed them to Joel and he bought basically the same model (not sure which one... newer version of mine but a few less features like dual inputs) and loves it!

Cornerstone monitors are marketed to the Pro CAD/CAM users.

Try the P1500 it looks like a real winner.

Cornerstone monitors are quite cheap for their quality, aren't they? (At least not as expensive as Sony's or Eizo's, I think?)

Anoyone know if I can get these in germany and if yes, where?

I'll be in the market for a new monitor in August or so. Which Cornerstone monitors would you recommend for gamer/video guy?

Almost ... if you read my post you'll notice that they OEM from Matrox. Also, Jim has already contributed to a few other threads here in the last couple months. (Maybe I just spend too much time on these forums. )

Hi guys thanks for the warm welcome. Yes, we are a Matrox OEM. The G450 is the second product we have OEM from Matrox, the first was based on the G200. The Engineering guys at Matrox that I have been working with have been great. They incorporated all of my custom video timings into the drivers of the G450. Some of my high-end 21" monitors support resolutions and refresh rate beyond the current standards.

The Matrox / Cornerstone match is a good in my opinion because we both are focused on Corporate America and Europe.

Ironically in the late 80's early 90"s we were competitors. Cornerstone started as a video card company. We realized early on that we could not compete with Matrox, ATI, and all the (dead solders) along the way. Glad we did or we would have been one of them.

I try not to push my products in these forums, but I'll make an exception in this case, since you asked.

Gamers usually go for a 17 or 19" monitor. I would suggest our p1450, 19" 0.22mm Horizontal dot pitch, 1280 x 1024 at 85Hz. It uses the new Hitachi Ergo-flat CRT. Link to the product page - http://shop.monitorsdirect.com/product.asp?sku=1601913

Yeah I have the c1025. It's a 21" model. It doesn't have a flat screen, like the trinitrons, but it also doesn't have the two dark horizontal lines that are common in the trinitrons. Of course I run run mine from the G400MAX and the first thing that stood out with me was the clarity of this monitor. It only cost about $625.00 and that included shipping and handling and a 3yr Advanced Replacement Warranty Upgrade. I hope I never have to use it because I would hate to have to use my 17" CTX for even a short period of time.

Oh, I almost forgot. DVD playback image quality on this monitor full screen at 1280x1024 is absolutely awesome.

OK, I am willing to spend as much on a 19" monitor (larger ones with good quality are too expensive for me) as is necessary to get the best picture quality. A flat tube is a must. What should I get? So far I've considered the expensive Sony G420 (I like how it looks ), and the Cornerstone p1460. Any comments? (I'd like to hear comments from GoSharks, too, please )

I don't need a USB hub, and I don't need dual inputs - all I need is the best image quality - I tend to lose my concentration when I use a monitor that flickers or lacks sharpness.
