      in real world use that translate into:

      Mode2 particularly is used with (S)VCDs for the Video track, which is in Mode2 Form2, i.e. no error correction, as when there's a bad block in a MPEG stream you probably either:
      - won't notice the visual defect because it's too small
      - it will only last for a very short time (on average half the time of the video keyframe interval)

      It's also used for (almost?) all CDs that have both a data track and an audio track (many games).

      Many CDROM drives can read Mode1 cds at the rated speed, but are very slow at Mode2... Especially AOpen drives are VERY slow with mode2. Plextor drives are often as fast with Mode1 as with Mode2

        I got the Toshiba SD-M1502 16x DVD drive awhile ago. No installation problems. It's quiet and fast.
