    hey rags,

i did that went thru a complete attemkpt to repair... but the installation bogged down coz it would not be able to read from thr CD after windows loaded the setup files !!! so i had to re-istall from a boot disk in DOS, thank god i was able to recover all the old settings/files...etc... Now what do i do ??? It seems like i have to install to a new win2k directory and then re-install all my appz... what to you think ?

hmm, did you read the instructions before you used forceaspi? copied from flexion.org

Here is a brief description of what each script does.

instASPI - Installs the latest, 4.60 (1021), Adaptec ASPI layer on Win9x,
WinME, WinNT and Win2K. Any existing ASPI Layers will be
      overwritten.

dumpASPI - Creates a backup of your existing ASPI layer, or parts thereof.
Some Win32 operating systems do not have an ASPI layer, in this
situation you will create an empty backup.

restASPI - Restores the ASPI layer backup created with 'dumpASPI'.
WARNING! If your ASPI backp is empty this will completely erase
      your currently installed ASPI layer.

killASPI - This will completely remove your currently installed ASPI layer.

killDUMP - The deletes your dumped ASPI layer.

I would recommend that you use ForceASPI in the following way...

Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
      Reboot your PC
Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK

Force ASPI just copies the .dll's into your \winnt directory and subdirectories. Check the instaspi.bat file to see exactly where it copies them.

Installing these .dll's wouldn't cause your CDR's to disappear tho. Windows uses an entirely different function to access these through other CDR software.

What CDR software are you trying to use? I think CDRWIN & Fireburner and some other smaller CDR apps require you to install ASPI. Nero/Adaptec got rid of that requirement since 4.0.

Try deleting your CDR's in device manager and rescanning.
                  C:\DOS
                  C:\DOS\RUN
                  \RUN\DOS\RUN
