these are available here through DVB west

And can be used for most of the free to air channels as well others
Even on the encrypted satellites there are a few FTA channels (NASA for instance)

I have the twinhan 1020a, and it was a bit of a pain to get working, but well worth the results.
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!

You can buy the STBs from Radio Shack and a few other places I think but they are buying them via Rogers. I know this because Future Shop and Radio Shack use the same distributor I do, Ingram Micro, and the boxes are sku'd there and listed as coming from Rogers.

I think it's just a way to reduce traffic at Rogers centers.

Interestingly, I remember being surprised by how much markup there was in these boxes when comparing the retail and wholesale prices. Also, I remember a few months ago Rogers was claiming that there was a shortage of 3250HD boxes but Ingram had hundreds in stock. I think this was because the PVRs were just about to come out and Rogers didn't want to give out the 3250HDs, just to take them back when everyone upgraded.

Before you ask, my company is not "authorized" by Rogers to resell these so Ingram won't let me order them.
      P.S. You've been Spanked!

Been researching DVB-C and cable standards. It appears that cable companies using Scietific Atlanta equipment use a proprietary encryption scheme. Seems the North America doens't like using standards from other places.

Your only shot seems to be if SA and/or Roger's releases a PCI card tuner.

Though it wouldn't hurt to call Roger's and ask if a DVB-C card would work...

            Rogers phone people define dumb.

They are the standard to which others are measured.

You'd have to contact someone in the network engineering department. If Roger's would let you do that is a completely different story.
