Klipsch!! Get from someone who has much more experience in developing audio products - as much as I like Logitech, they just aren't that big of a brand in audio.
I checked out their site. I didn't see a 5.1 kit with optical input.
The Logitech kit seems good enough. It's only $400. If I have to buy something new in 2-3 years I won't feel cheated.
well, I was trying to suggest that buying 2 pairs of proper speakers and a proper 5.1 amp
may enhance the total listening experience.
It would probably bring the total cost above what Smo was willing to pay, but actually listening to the difference has persuded folks to cough up the extra money.
Do you mean 2 good speakers, a 5.1 amp and 3 average speaker then? Not sure what a 5.1 amp would do for you when you only have 2 speakers.

Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!
VJ, you got Quadral's as well then, which one? (sry 4 the hijack)
I have the Quadral Argent 70 (not in their current range anymore, they are floor standing, 3 way bass reflex), connected with a single wire (no bi-wiring or bi-amping).
Initially, I had ordered a pair of B&W speakers (don't remember which model) to complement my Onkyo Integra amplifier, but by shear coincidence I heard a cheaper Onkyo amplifier with these Quadrals and it sounded better than the system listened to in the store. So I asked the dealer if I could cancel the speakers, and if he could supply Quadral (they were slightly more expensive, but well worth it IMO. Luckily for me, he was willing to cancel them and order the Quadrals via a friend of his (he doesn't sell Quadral).

"GT40: Ah, I c I've been daft. Not only was that what you meant, it was also what you wrote, just not what I read. I agree with you although for music I still believe it'd be better to buy a 2.0 amp and just two speakers for the same amount.
Funny, I think I started listening to a pair of Hepta (Dutch speaker brand) Spring and B&W 304 if I remember correctly. But the guy, insisting that these were good too, suggested I'd listen to a pair of Quadral Shoguns as well (Mk IV or V, the phonologue gold series). They blew me away, never heard anything better (to my ears) since at around 450-500 euro a piece.

Have a look at the link I posted above (d/l the pdf flyer), the concept looks very interesting, and I'd be interested to actaully hear it, or have an opinion from someone who has.
Basically it allows you to have a full sorround system in a single enlosure - no need to run wires

I doI've never heard anything like that GT40, I know Pioneer had somethign like a 227 small speaker wall that was supposed to do something similar. I don't belive it, but that could be just becuase I won;t spend my money on it.

So how are the logitech's in a living room situation? My Dad and I were playing with his new Z-5500's over the Christmas weekend and we thought it was amazing and were very tempted to test it in the living room for comparison to his current surround sound rig.

excellent. I've thinking about picking up a set for myself, especially since they switched to using speaker wire versus RCA plugs.
- also I am the KING of typos and not reading my posts before posting :P
