  • Is a G400 w/32 sufficient for a 17 inch?

Well, since it looks like the g400 Max is going to be delayed until 9/9, I have to ask:

I have a 17 inch monitor, 0.26mm, 1280 x1024 max res. Therefore, would it be feasible to get a G400 with 32 megs, instead of the G400 Max, and have no troubles? From what I've heard, it would almost be pointless for me to get the Max anyway, aside from the faster Ramdac.

Anyone? (Can you tell I want a Matrox now!

Go for it. The regular G400 kicks ass big time, and saves you a few bucks while yer at it

I have a similar question as Ocey.

        I have a 19in .26 monitor that I run at 1280 x 1024 for 2d work and 1024 x 860 for games.
        My cpu is a P2 450 and I have a g200 16mg SG.

Would I benefit from a max or would a g400 be good enough?
I would like to try to run some games at 1280 x 1024 in D3D (Unreal & MS Flight Sim)

        What is your advice?

        Thanks
        Grant

grantm88 The d3d on the G400 looks insane! THere sould be no problem 1280 x 1024 in D3D. I'm getting the same G400 32meg. I have run Shogo on a 16meg TNT @1280 x 1024 in D3D, This card will do it no problem. The games keep getting more and more intense you really need horsepower for the bells and whistles. I like D3D ove all other apps in gaming with 32-bit. Kruzin has said he will be using 32 bit from now on and that sounds good to me. Thats why Im not going TNT2U. THe G400 looks like it is the best card for D3D @32bit for gaming. And I'm looking foward to trying the Dual monitor action for Web design.

Hmmm...I'm pondering whether to get the regular G400 or a TNT2U. The MAX was my first choice but september is just too far away. I've got a PIII450 running at 581mhz and I'd like to be able to play just about any game at 1280x1024 on my 19". I really like the features and image quality that goes with the G400 but can the regular version hold it's ground against the TNTU as far as smooth playability in high resolutions are concerned?
The head to head review here at murc showed the G400 to keep up with the MAX well in resolutions up to 1024x768 but it really started to plummit if it went any higher, I told myself this might be a result of it only being a 16meg version, could it be?
            Advice anyone?
