  • Final Reality AGP test scores with new drivers

    Hi all

Maybe I'm dreaming, but I am sure my old Final Reality 16meg AGP score used to be around 75-80. With the new g200 drivers it now appears to be :

    16 meg : 116.22
    25 meg : 66.95
    36 meg : 52.79

It was a pain even trying to get the 36meg test to run with the old drivers!!

Quite a boost methinks...Matrox must have finally solved some agp thoughput probs with these new drivers. I notice things do alook alot smoother now in the test and in some games.

    anyone else confirm these changes?

    Regards

Just did a quick run on the 16MB AGP test, results as follows:
    1024x768x16 - 122.08
    1024x768x32 - 122.7
    640x480x16 - 121.68
Not very definitive but very fast, much faster than before. I'll have to try further tests with the AGP aperature set to 128.

      Hi Ron,

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like they have definately fixed the agp thang. Maybe DIME is now working as it should be. My result BTW was at 1152X864 16bit colour, AGP aperture already on 128. A few background apps running, Bios 2.2.

...just a small note, I'm not trying
to be a besserwisser. This is from the official website of Final Reality at

        http://www.remedy.fi/fr/

benchmarking DirectX6.2 with FR might not be the best solution because (quote from the site):

"...we can not recommend using Final Reality for DirectX 6 benchmarking, as it was created for DirectX 5.0."

As for DirectX 6, they went on and formed Futuremark Corporation and started the
3DMARK 99 product line, so I'd trust any results from that benchmark far more...

based on the same 3D engine, though !
        (improved version)

but you probably know this already
        Current System:

        AMD K6-2 300@350

        Millennium G200 8MB bios v2.6

        Windows 98

          Hi Mr Pither

Thanks for the info. I am not questioning the fact that FR may be innacurate, that goes without saying as what program is totally accurate. It's just that with just a simple change of drivers the AGP test score can change so much is what is in question.

All the other 3d tests remain the same as with previous drivers, even bus mastering.

Without the new drivers and DX6 scores of 75+ ( 16meg AGP test), with the the new drivers 116+. It's possible the new drivers support Dx6 AGP functions better than the old, which is my point It's still an interesting increase and very noticiable how much smoother things look.

32bit Z buffer on. No change to Vsync.

          Regards
