  • PD5.13/G200 3DMark MAX results

Here are some of my 3DMark MAX results for the Marvel G200-TV with the new PowerDesk 5.13.020 & OpenGL ICD.

The resolution tested was 640x480 @16 bit. Yell if you like but I limited the test to this resolution so anyone who wants to compare can do so with the Shareware version of 3DMark MAX and not have to register it.

Be warned though that 3DMark MAX is an 18 meg download ;-)

Neither the machine or the Marvel is overclocked. The setup is a BH6, P-II/400, 256 megs PC-100, Marvel w/8megs. Here goes:

    2792 3DMarks

    3537 CPU 3DMarks

    891 RasterMarks

    Game1 (Race) : 32.8 fps

    Game2 (First person) : 28.1 fps

    Fill Rate: 78.1 MTexels/s

    Fill Rate w/Multi Textures: 77.9 MTexels/s

2 MB texture render speed: 186.0 fps

8 MB texture render speed: 102.3 fps

32 MB texture render speed: 52.2 fps

Bump Mapping Emboss - 3 passes: 66.1 fps

        Nice scores

        DrMordrid & Coolroy:

Just for the record .. you forgot the 4 & 16MB texture rendering test - could you please update ? Thanx !

        Coolroy:

You seem to have a twistedt number in the cpu 3dmarks ... 6311 should be more like 3611, right ?

        Scytale:

You have a dramatic drop in 32MB texture rendering ... this indicates that your Graphics Aperture Size is set too low to address 32MB texture memory ... raise it one notch and let it fly

I don't own a G200, but just for the sake of comparison here are some TNT 1 numbers.

(Note, the G200 doesn't do multitexturing if I recall, so you can take that into account, I am also quoting 800x600x16 numbers (The PD version does this, BTW) on a K6-2 350 (112x3.5) so that's another factor) I think it's a good indication that another video card is in order for you Intel folks.

I feel kind of retro, here, I've used 3dmark99max for several months now.

Thanks for your comment Maggi. I upped my aperture from 64MB to 128MB. This used to have a negative impact on overall 3D performance, but not with PD5. All scores are about the same as before but:

32MB Texture Rendering Speed: 74.6 FPS

Maggi, any comment on carlmeister's G400 score? Seems a tad low to me (even at 800x600).

                Hi Scytale !

                Now it runs

Carlmeisters scores seem pretty ok ... it's an AMD-CPU and he used 800x600 ...

What puzzles me is the fact that he doesn't have a L2-cache !?!?!?!

I thought any CPU nowadays had one ...

Himself's system also says that there's no level two cache... Must be something wrong with 3dmark99 max' detection routine that's all. I would hope!

Oh, and Maggi - on the K6-2's the L2 cache is on the mobo, not the CPU.

                    re cpu 3dmarks = 6311 , thats correct.
                    same result when re tested.
Please note if 32mb texture render speed test ran with m/b bios setting less than 128mb for agp then results as low as 2-3 fps result.

Yes, I think it is a bug in 3Dmarks detection routine. My mobo has 1 meg of L2 which is currently enabled. 800 x 600 at 16 bit is the max res that the shareware version will do. With the low scores in comparision to intel, I think this benchmark may use a lot of non optimized floating point? Any comments?

What ever happened to the 5000+ score that the G400 was going to score I have yet to see it? I also think that the 3DMark benches are a little screwie. Im getting a G400 so Im not really concerend about the 3DMark scores. I am in "Benchmark recovery", trying to use my system rather than bench it all night....

                          Carlmeister,

Even with a K6-2 266 @ 280 I was getting around 23fps in the second game test, with a K6-3 450 you are getting 26 fps, that alone suggests there is something extremely off with that test. I read something on Ace's hardware to the effect that the programmer commented on that code being rather buggy and the AMD problem was a known one, but that's hearsay.

Also, 32 Mb of local ram really helps out with the AGP texture scores, I've noticed, both with your scores and ones in reviews around the net for the G400 and other 32 MB cards. What it really means is AGP is not being used, so you'd have to up the bar again to really test AGP performance.

If the G200 with 8MB is getting 70fps at 32MB textures then something is up with that, it's doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Markus and Coolroy : i think Coolroy is using the older version of 3D Mark 99 not the max one .. so the 6311 is normal for that test .. also are the higher scores of game 1 and game 2 which are higher in 3d mark than max .. also the 3Dmarks score is low .. which is normal for the older version too.

how does everyone get such a high Game1 (race) fps value? With my G400 at 800x600 16bit, i get:

                              game1 (race) : 27 fps
                              game2 (shooter) : 27.3 fps

all of my other scores match up pretty well though.
