Kenyee: Just a thought. Unvieled and released are two different things. Although the V4 may be unvieled Aug 2nd does not mean it will be made available at that time. So you may have to wait several months to get yeself one of them suckers.

I wasn't bothered by your post. It wasn't my intention to make it a call to defect. It was just to let folks that are waiting for G400Maxes to show up at mail order places that they get to see what the Voodoo4 will be about before they can get a G400Max.

Thanks for the shipping reality check. I forgot to mention that. Yes, it is just an announcement. The NV10 and Voodoo4 won't be available until X-mas at the earliest or early next year in quantity the way I see it.

As for patience, mine went something like this (remember, I still have an S3 Virge card)-:
G200 came out, no OpenGL driver
TNT came out, but didn't work w/ my Asus P2L97 MB because of AGP current draw
Rage128 came out, but drivers really blew
Savage4 came out, but performance was only TNT speed instead of between TNT and TNT2. Drivers also blew.
TNT2 came out, but Herc Ultra TNT2 isn't available until Sept.
G400Max came out, Matrox got the GL drivers up to speed, but then pushed back mail order availability until Sept. The EMBM made this the card to get.
I'll still probably get the G400Max when it is available so I can play Q3A, but I am still curious about the Voodoo4 and whether I should get a cheap TNT or TNT2 and save $100 for the upgrade next year.

Matrox haven't pushed mail order shipping back until September, they started shipping last Friday.

Aghh.. I am not trying to heat things up. I keep trying to explain that I'm not trying to provoke anyone w/ my posts.

By "mail order shipping", I mean non-Matrox. I would classify the Matrox store as "ordering direct at full price" :-)

As for the cards, I never had them but considered all of them; those were all my reasons for not choosing them.

oh ken...I take everything back. If I was still running such a card after such a time, I might say just anything myself . In fact, you're being quite restrained. I could (but won't, to spare you all the agony of remembrance) name at least a couple of people who haven't shown 1/100th of the reasonableness under similar stress.

The Voodoo3 was unvieled at Comdex in private last year. The 2000 started shipping like last month or two and the 3000 shipped a little after that. The 3500 isn't even shipping yet AFIAK. So when this new miracle board is unvieled, don't expect to get it until at least next spring. Matrox was sampling the G400's to OEM's in December and they just started shipping so if you want to wait, you will be waiting a LONG TIME. Expect the same thing for the NV10. It is not being released in September, but being sampled so that means at least 6 months before retail delivery. The one thing I like about Matrox is they don't announce their plans a year in advance and then fall short like most of the others. The Voodoo 3 had a longer feature list and then it was cut down to be the Banshee 2 essentially. These companies are just trying to get customers to wait for them instead of buying elsewhere. It works for a while but people will wise up soon. Also expect the other companies to have their next gen products available too.

kenyee even non Matrox mail order has not been pushed back to September, take a look at Insight they say July 25th. Just remember these resellers saying that they will be out in September are mostly the same ones that were saying they would be out at the end of June just to lure in pre-orders.
