3DMark MAX Results: G400MAX vs. V3-3000

  • 3DMark MAX Results: G400MAX vs. V3-3000

    Just got my G400MAX today. Before I installed it, I ran a set of tests with the V3-3000 it is replacing. I am pleased by the results. It would appear that the G400MAX does benefit significantly by running on a high-end machine - see my system specs below. Even at lower resolutions, the results surprised me. I will rerun and report any variances if I encounter them. Thought many of you would like to see these results - some of the others I have seen haven't been as positive. Please forgive me if I've missed anything - I wanted to get this out into this forum for all of you to see, and analyze for yourselves. I'm looking forward to your feedback. I'm a flight and racing sim nut and am going to test the board using the sims that I currently favor. I will report both positive and negative experiences. For the Q2 and HL guys, sorry for now. Don't have these games so cannot provide any benchmarks.

    By the way - first impression of DVD playback is very positive. I have an ATI Rage Fury 128 and this looks at least as good as that I think. And much better than XingDVD on my V3-3000. Just some initial impressions.

        What I found strange was the 32MB Texture
        Rendering Speed at 1600x1200 for Voodoo3.
        It got 64.6 FPS while it had under 10 FPS
        at the lower resolutions. Are you sure you
        pasted the right results? Otherwise it could
        be a bug in 3D Mark.

          V3 at 1600x1200x16 is about 3000 in 3dmark99 max, with a P3-500. It is at least up to a G400max in this resolution, and it cost less then 50% of it. heheheh....ROTFL... )

            I can see it now..that V3 3000 is such a wonderful deal, it is 50% lower in price than the G400. Lets see...to get the HooDoo to do the same thing as a G400 you need to do the following:
            1.Buy another V3 3000, just to get multimonitor capability.
            2.Buy an awesome set a glasses for when you want to run 1600X1200. Since its visual quality is sub par when compared to the G400 at that resolution.
            3.Get a bottle of Wild Turkey each time you want to run a game at 32 bit color depth(Because the V3 can't do it, and the whiskey will blur your vision enough to where you wouldn't be able to tell anyways.)
            4. Hope and pray the games you end up buying don't use too large of textures.

            Yep, that V3 is one hell of a deal.

              buddy, that's not a bust, I dont play game with more than one monitor(it there is any) and if I want to I would throw in my Mill2 PCI, and still not need a G400 anyway, what is the use of it when u dont need it ever.

              As far as output quality, 2D is as sharp as any current offering on the market, only 3D I would admitt a little behind G400, but if it would worthb 50% of a product's cost, with a dualhead quality offer, the G400 doesnt worth a cent!

              Have you compare 16bit quality of a v3 with 16bit of a G400/TNT2 lately?

              I miss the millennium 1 kind of impressiveness!

                  If you don't need the dual head, then you can just get a single head. And you bet the visual quality is farrrrr better in 3d, and the 2d is way better at higher resolutions. And you have a card that is cheaper than the V3. I didn't think it is that hard to compare apples to apples. 16 bit hehehe. Hahahahahahah....16bit....Oh god, I can't stand it you crack me up.

                    Well, as some of you know, I'm using a V3 3000 now, and you may also remember that I play a lot of GL based games (namely Q/Q2/Q3A/HL/Unreal and so forth).

                    OK, so it renders in 16bit colour, yes you can see the difference between 16 and 32bit, and yes it can't handle high res textures, but I really don't give a flying ****, I got it for half the price, 3 months earlier, which means I'll get 9 months use of it before it becomes obselete rather than 6 months like the poor saps who are still waiting on their MAX cards.

                    I'm not totally converted to the dark side, there is still the chance that something like the NV10 will provide a good arguement for me to empty my wallet once again. But for now, V3-3000 rocks, feel free to argue, but take all the above into consideration.

                        Yeah yeah I O/C'ed the hell out of it and it locks up a few times but so what.
