  • Please Help, Mystique G200 and Zoran softDVD2

    Greetings,

Short story: Clicking on the Zoran softDVD2 icon freezes my computer.

I've just reinstalled Win98(my hdd was going bad, bought a new one and a DVD drive ), ploped in the drive, but the computer freezes when I run the software.

I've installed the latest AGP drivers, latest BM drivers, DirectX6.1, PowerDesk 5.13, EAX 1.0, etc...

    System:

K6-2 400 sitting on an Asus P5A w/ latest BIOS and drivers
Mystique G200 8MB w/ latest BIOS and drivers
    196 MB PC100 SDRAM
SBLive! Value w/ EAX 1.0 for now
    Brand New Quantum UDMA/66 7200 rpm w 512k buffer
    Brand New Samsung DVD-ROM SDR-430(4.8X DVD, 32X CD-ROM)

I dont think I missed anything. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreaciate it. Don't put anything past me because I've never installed a DVD player before, assume I know nothing.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Step 1: Take the Zoran CD, and burn it
Step 2: Find a copy of Cinemaster or PowerDVD
    Step 3: Install whichever
    Step 4: Watch your DVDs

Zoran suck large, mossy rocks. It has compatability problems with half the hardware on the market, and the SoftDVD from Matrox now has issues with the latest 5.xx drivers. Save yourself now, and just burn it

Somehow I knew you were going to tell me that I know I've read all the posts in the past on how crappy Zorans player is, but when its all you got...Anyone want to email me a copy of Cinemaster or PowerDVD or post it on an FTP for me?

      Dave

If it is the sofware then it must really suck ass to not work off of a clean install of Win98.

            Rab,

Dont worry, G400 Max has already been ordered Other things will come in time.

            Kruzin,

Thanks for the most helpful link. Zoran's software is absolute crap. PowerDVD worked like a charm, now I'm gonna try Cinemaster and compare.

            Thanks Again!

              Dave,
Thank you for testing PowerDVD. I also have a K6-2 and had heard that DVD was a problem with SS7. Its good to know it works well. Did you have any problems setting up a DVD and the G200?

I'm way behind in updating my Mobo bios and drivers and also my G200 drivers. I've got Win98SE on order from MS and was planning to upgrade all the drivers when I did the SE install. Any tips?

              Thanks,
              RAB

                Rab,

PowerDVD works wonderfully! I do notice a frame or two drop here and there but it really isnt noticable unless you are looking for it. If you d/l powerDVD from the sight I went to, make sure to get the eval copy and insert the CD-KEY because the demo only allows 3 minutes audio and 6 minutes video before it dies. I never could cinemaster to work, kept complaining that .dll's were missing even though I could see the .dll's with the install. Oh well, PowerDVD works awesome. Now I'm really looking forward to my MAX(like I wasn't already )!
I did not have any problems setting up the hardware, just popped it in and Win98 recognized the drive and it worked(after I used PowerDVD). Do Not Use Zoran's Software! I'm slaving the DVD-ROM off of my 250MB zip drive on the secondary IDE. Hope this helps. Back to the second half of Pulp Fiction

                Dave

I had the same problems with zoran and cinemaster, but powerDVD worked perfectly the first time. I'm running a pioneer 6x scsi dvd with a G200 and a K6-2 350- oc400.
I drop quite a few frames on Insurrection but other disks are doing fine.

The ATI Cinemaster just worked perfect on my G200, don't know where I got it from, but all you had to do was disabling hardware-accelaration in the control-panel. And I prefered it over PowerDVD, since it run more stable. Now, the G400's DVD-Software looks incrediby familar to the ATI Cinemaster, is it really the same?
