8MB SGRAM upgrade for G200

The upgrade doesn't seem to help most people, and causes many people problems.
As far as the system RAM goes, I went up to 128MB from 64, and I notice the difference. CAS3 v. CAS2 doesn't make too much of a difference at 100Mhz (I've heard 3-5% speed difference reported). One side note though is that CAS2 memory generally overclocks better, since it has CAS3 timing to fall back on. If PC100 CAS2 memory won't run at 112Mhz, or 124, or maybe even 133, it might do so when slowed down to CAS3 timing.
Good luck,
Wombat

Thanks I was wondering about that CAS latency stuff. Actually, the 64MB of RAM I thought I ordered (I ordered online) was CAS 2 but they sent me CAS 3 instead I don't know why I didn't complain but I was building a new system at the time and I guess I just didn't want to waste the time or deal with the hassle.

I found that upgrading the G200 to 16Mb solved problems with missing textures in Forsaken at high resolutions (maybe my AGP wasn't set up correctly or Forsaken doesn't use it?). However, I can't overclock very far (from 89 to 94 MHz) due to the upgrade being lower speed and as I have a Lasagne X cooler on it, I'm tempted to remove the ram upgrade and see how far I can push it without.
On the other hand, I may just sell the whole lot (G200 millenium retail + 8Mb + Tv_out + Lasagne cooler + Hardware DVD decoder and get a g400 32Mb for not much more money. Probably a lot less hassle in the long run.
