  • Voodoo II and G400MAX

I have a G400MAx on order I have been useing a Voodoo II for most of my Gaming Half-Life ect. Should I leave this card in my system ? Will I have any problems with conflicts. Any input will be welcome. Thanks in advance, Rick

    They should work together fine.
But you'll see that (unless you play Tribes or Unreal religeously), that the Voodoo2 will get little to no use, so you may as well take it out.

but not before Unreal gets decent OGL and D3D support ... that game runs under glide.

        RickK:

I too will be getting a Max and my Voodoo2 will be removed from my system. I haven't used it in quite a while. I much prefer my G200 for gaming especially using the S-video TV Out to a 33" Panasonic GAOO TV.
If you have some Glide only games that you want to continue play the keep it. If not, remove it as it will just sitting there causing heat and blocking air-flow in your case as it is in mine. If you have a Max, you won't need it.
BTW, a Voodoo2 card cannot cause a conflict as it doesn't use an IRQ. For that reason, on a BX based motherboard at least, it is a good candidate for PCI slot #1. AGP cards may be forced to share their IRQ with any IRQ-using card placed in that slot. AGP cards often don't like sharing so a non-IRQ card like a Voodoo2 is best placed there.

        Happy trails,

          Hey Maggi,

Tell me, the G400 of yours is not a MAX, is it?

          Just wanted to know.

          Thanks,
          Joseph

Fleabus,, I also have G200 and vd2 sli, and I have the exact opposite solution,

G200 run fine with 2d game and vcd/dvd, but on 3d game, I use vd2 95 percent of the time, G200 can not even play a decent MS baseball, Flighter sim, motorcross, unreal, Falcon4, Monster Truck etc etc!

G400 might be a different story!

              smile:
If you look at my sig you'll see that I don't have SLI. My system is very fast though and the G200 TV-Out to my set is terrific. The TV is also centred in a Surround system.
              Receiver: Pioneer Pro-Logic VSX-D901S
              125w/ch fronts; 55w/ch centre; 45w/ch rear.
              Speakers: Fronts - Cerwin-Vega! D-9 (4-8 ohm)
              1x15", 2x4", 1x1"
              Sensitivity 102db
              Centre - Paradigm CC-200 (6 ohm)
              2x5 1/2"; 1x3/4"
              Sensitivity: 92db
              Rear - Cerwin-Vega! 26 (4-8 ohm)
              1x12", 1x2.5"
              Sensitivity: 96db
I'd much rather do my gaming with the TV where it is instead of looking off to the side to a 17"(albeit a good one) monitor.
The G200 just looks so much better and doesn't seem slow to me!

              Happy trails,

If you've got one V2, get a second from someone who tossed theirs out. I had one, then added a second from a friend of mine, got the hacked up Wicked3D drivers (for some reason you can't buy them anymore, dammit!), and WOAH NELLIE! Damm, V2 SLI at 1024x768 is FAST! And Unreal positively GLides across the screen, it's that smooth! :-)

Anywho, I've also got a G200, but the G200's OpenGL support doesn't work. For some reason the Millennium II in my system confilicts with the G200 when it comes to OpenGL. The G200 is great for Direct3D, but as I play a variety of games, D3D support just isn't enough.

                Just my $0.02
