What is a good DVD drive to get to go along with a G400Max - using software decoding? It needs to be able to read CD-Rs and CD-RWs, do DAE, and I need it to be tray loading. It also needs to work in DOS like my present Teac CD-ROM. I would prefer to have a SCSI drive, but I have heard about some compatibility problems with SCSI DVD drives and software decoders. I have a SCSI CD-RW drive already. I can free up one IDE connection, if I find that IDE is a better choice.
I've been looking at the following drives:
Toshiba SD-M1201 5X-DVD SCSI drive (32X CD-ROM)
Toshiba SD-M1212 6X-DVD IDE drive (32X CD-ROM)
Is there much of a difference in performance between the two Toshiba drives? Any opinions or personal experiences would be helpful.
