  • Is there a good windows based OC utility for my G400?

I have a nice fan attached to the heatsink but haven't overclocked it yet because unlike all of you who have experience with g200clk(dos based)I was waiting for a nice windows based with slide control overclocking utility. Is there one? or do I just need to download g200clk and learn how to use it. BTW what should I expect to get out of my vanilla G400? Thanks for any info.

Well, on my stock G400 with only a little fan added to the heatsink using g200clk I use the command g200clk /1 296 and it is working perfectly (any higher and I start getting garbage pixels). About a 10% increase all around I felt. Although Half-Life multiplayer is still slow enough to force me to play at 640x480 (I HOPE this gets fixed in next driver rev. at least 800x600 guys).

I'll try next weekend to go to the extremes of adding some mroe cooling and see just how high I can take it. but it's near Max levels as is so I cant really complain much
A computer is like sex. Your never 100% sure what your doing but when all goes well, it feels REAL good.

With Powerstrip 2.51.06 I was able to overclock my G400 32Mb DH oem card to the same clock settings as the MAX. Unfortunately after about 2-3 hours signs that the card were overheating became apparent. However, dropping the mem clock down to 190 helped a lot. That is what I have the card running at now.

I use the latest powerstrip and it seems to work good. I have my DH G400 set at 198 memory, 148.5 core. No problems so far. I just load up powerstrip, it sets the speed, then i just close it.

I installed the latest powerstrip and couldn't change the core only memory, is this because it wasn't registered? I overclocked the memory to 190 and ran 3DMARK 99 MAX and didn't get any increase. I really hate all the BS that goes along with powerstrip and it screws with my system.Anyway, thanks for the info.

you cannot adjust just the core on matrox cards.

But the option wasn't even available because it was greyed out. So the core can't be touched at all or just not by itself.Forgive me if I sound ignorant but I am new to matrox since I just got my DH G400 2 weeks ago. Used to be a tnt owner. Thanks

It's not that you can't adjust the "core", it's just that with Matrox cards, if you adjust one, you adjust the other with it.
When overclocking the G400, you are adusting the PLL (Sclk). Memory (Mclk) and graphics (gclk) are derived from that number, using dividers.
                  Sclk*(2/3)=Mclk
                  Sclk*(1/2)=Gclk
So by default, the Sclk is at 252
                  252*(2/3)=166Mclk
                  252*(1/2)=126Gclk
By moving the slider in PS, you are adjusting the Sclk, which in turn adjusts the other values...
