  • Cooling problems?

All the slots filled now in my machine with two soundcards in.
I noticed their is very little space between the fan on the MAX and the backside of the souncard in the slot below, about 3-4 mm.

This worries me a bit, is their enough airflow this way to cool adequate.

Just wondering: why don't they manufacture those heatgenerating videocards the other way around, so that components are above when placed in the the AGP slot, beeing the top slot their would be plenty of room above it, so much better cooling

I suppose the specs (ATX, PCI?) don't allow for it.
I agree it would improve heat dissipation since the PCB is a fairly bad heat conductor. However this would not work when the card is equipped with a fan (like the MAX), since it would move hot CPU air onto the graphics components. A solution would be to make a hole in the PCB under the graphics chip and mount the fan on the bottom side of the PCB, below the hole.

On my P2B, and many other mobos, there is not room to flip the chip on AGP cards. With just the heatsink, it would hit the processor heatsink...

As far as cooling, you could look into a card cooler, which mounts fans above the cards. I'm sure when ALBPM sees this thread, he'll whip out his cooling pics again to feed you with ideas
