What is the right agp aperture setting?

I recently switched from a tnt card to a G400 dual head. I'm not having any problems at all but wanted to make sure my card is setup right. My agp aperture is at 64 which is half my ram.What does this setting do and what do you guys have yours at? does setting this higher boost performance or just burn up the card? thanks

I have mine set to 128MB which is equal to the RAM in my unit and my card has not burned up yet.

In my experience, try setting the agp aperture setting to 100% of your memory. Mine is set to 256mb since I have 256mb of ram. The agp aperture also has a major effect on the 3Dmark MAX's texture rendering. Especially the 32meg rendering. At the 64meg apeture, my frame rate for 32meg renedering is a pitiful 2.8 frames(slides) a second. At the 256meg apeture, I get 52.6frames a second. Dramatic increase there.

You should test it out with 3dmark99 max. I did and found that running about 64Mb AGP with 196MB memory gave me the biggest speed increase.

Thanks! I did get a increase in 3DMARK 99 MAX by bumping it up to 128.Can someone explain what this is. Does the default for this change for different motherboards because my p2b manual says default is 64 but my friends IZZA(i think thats what its called) motherboard says 256. isn't 256 a bit high on a system with only 64mb ram? I have used to boards this year and both defaulted at 64mb. I changed them to 128mb, which is my system ram.

From what I've discovered, your mobo will give up to roughly half of what the AGP apeture us set to to your graphics card if it wants it. I.e. Set it to 128mb to let you graphics card had 64mb AGP memory. I leave it set to the amount of RAM in my system, and have had no problems on any machine I've built.

Arguing all the way with your logic, I actually tried it. (Hey, I may argue, but I'm also open to suggestion!) And, of course, you seem to be entirely accurate! I set AGP to 128MB, as I have 128MB, and SANDRA shows 62MB AGP memory plus 8MB video RAM).

The results were dramatic, to say the least. With the AGP memory effectively doubled, all games run with a higher frame rate - very noticeably higher. NHL99, for example runs beautifully now at 1024x768. (Too bad it didn't improve the gameplay!)

The AGP aperture is set via the BIOS.

What about mobo's that don't have AGP aperture setting in the bios ?? is there a software to change it from within windoze ??
i tried a program called Tweak Bios and it doesn't have this option .. any ideas ??
