looks like it may be trying to load the 3dfx opengl take a look at your q3config.cfg. try deleting the entry (or at least look at) r_lastValidRenderer .

The game is trying to load Voodoo drivers for some reason. Why, I don't know, unless you had a voodoo on there before.

Again, half-life is not a 3d game until you load a map. If you cannot even get to the 2d 640x480 menu (which is in no way, shape, or form 3D) there is something funky going on. Any video card (including 2D only cards) should be able to get to HL's menu system, as long as you don't try to load a map first.

I was just able to start a game with Half Life, but only in D3D. Trying to set the video to use OpenGL generated an error. Stating that there was no OpenGL driver for my display device. I used the default opengl setting. Kingpin won't launch, but hey, that game is buggier than hell. I try seeing why Q3 is trying to intialize a Voodoo driver which has never been in my system.

Try reducing your AGP size to 128mb and see what happens.

I can only think of a couple possibilities at this point...that the opengl32.dll and glu32.dll are the wrong version (which most commonly happens when Scitech DirectGL had been installed), or the registry entry or ICD file is missing.

The windows OGL files should be in the windows\system folder.
Opengl32.dll should be 737k in size
            glu32.dll should be 137k

If those check out, look in your registry for this entry:

            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > OpenGLDrivers > G400ICD "G400ICD.dll"

If that entry is not there, add it. Then make sure G400ICD.dll is in the windows\system folder.

Everything is there where it should be and checks out fine. I don't know why this is happening to me. Perhaps I did something bad in a past life. I am so pissed right now, I am going to redo my whole machine. I'll post the results when I'm done in a few hours.

You haven´t by any chance set your desktop to 24 bpp? This will not allow 3D apps to run in hardware mode.

Nope, 16 bit color depth at 1280x1024. Almost done with redoing my machine. More to follow.

Just redid my whole machine. It's as clean as something, I don't know what, but it's clean. The same freakin problem occurs. I have tried different color depths and resolutions, nothing works. The proper opengl files seem to be where they are supposed to be. It seems as though Q3 is trying to access a 3dfx driver, which obviously was never on my system. Where and how can I change this so it doesn't look for it. Please help me enjoy this card before I run over it with my car.

It is not looking for the 3dfx card! It just says that as a last attempt to try glide before completely giving up.

Do OGL screensavers work? Do any othe OGL apps work?

When I had this problem, it was the registry key Kruzin was talking about.

                        Cheers,
                        Steve

No opengl apps work. I checked the registry again, and it's there. I also checked the windows/sys folder and everything is there as well. Why does God hate me?

Figured it out I think. Running multimon works, you just can't check the box on the second monitor to extend your desktop. I think I got it. Thanks to all who replied and helped me through this torturous time in my life. You don't know how close I was to just ending it. If for some reason I am speaking to soon, you can assure yourselves that you will here from me. I'm going to try and play some Quake III now, before I slit my wrist for being a stupid ass. Thanks again all.

Yep, that was it, all games work now when I disable the 2nd monitor. The games look great, and the graphics are amazing, but I do notice some stuttering here and there. Any suggestions on what settings I can manipulate to smooth this out a bit? What are some of the cool features that I can enable which will make these cool games (Kingpin, Half Life, Sin, Quake III, etc.), look even better and run faster. Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks again for all your help guys (and gals?).

You never said that you were *using* the dual head. It has been noticed before in other threads that with these drivers you must disable the dual head feature...

Oh well, at least it runs now!
