• Will Cilicon do to attach a fan?

I've seen this done before. I would think it would break down, but it's working on the Pentiums I've seen. My concern is pointing straight down. Any suggestions?

Wouldn't it melt and give you Pamela Anderson look-alike boobs??

Velcro: too much dust and it lets go.
M3 Scotch Tape: the same, I guess?
A screw: could hurt the board.
Superglue: what's the max-heat it can stand?
Snot: well, it might ...

You could on the other hand try to get a dust free room (yeah right!!) and take the case cover off... Like I have
Not the dust free room, but I've taken my case cover off, and let a standard room-fan blow cool air through my case. I have a mobo temp of between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius (max 80F).

Do give the fan the ability to blow directly onto your cards and CPU... it also blows away some dust

Jorden, in a room with dust, room temp at 33, outside temp at 34 (shade) and 39 (direct sun)

Silicone gives off acetic acid when it cures. That is why it smells like vinagar.
You probably don't want any of that around delicate electronic components.
Or, maybe you do. You decide.

I didn't think it was going to work. The person I know who currently uses it is probably in for a bit of a suprise.

I take it your trying to find a way to attach a Heat sink and fan combo. I use superglue and heat Sink paste(no, not mixed together).
First remove the stock Heat Sink and clean the chip with acetone. Put a small amount of heat Sink paste in the center and spread it carefully so not to get any on the very corners of the chip. Then put a VERY SMALL drop of superglue on each corner. Line up the Heat Sink and carefully set it on the chip. Apply gentle pressure for about five minutes and it's done.
I've done this on numerous cards and haven't had any problems yet. It's easy to remove with a knife blade too, if you need to do that in the future.

chuck - just looking at your specs there, if you ever get any stuttering playing a DVD, it's because of your elcheapo sound card. I had to replace someone's £8 (~$15) sound card because of this just the other day.

You get what you pay for I guess.

SteveC,
Actualy right now there is no sound card in it as it is sitting cover off, open to the world waiting for it's MAX!
Also, I don't have a DVD yet.

Steve, Talk about timing! 30 min after your post I was awarded Employee of the Month (woo-hoo). But it does come with a bonus large enough to get a good sound card. Probably get an SB Live Value. Comments?

boy, has this gotten off-topic

I have a SB Live and like it a lot. If you want to check out the competition I heard the Diamond MX300 is also very good. I chose the SB Live because of it's low CPU utilization and the MX300 wasn't out yet

Congrats chuck! I wish we had employee of the month - might inspire me to actually do some work instead of sitting on these forums all day!

Anyway, yeah, I got a live value - lovely card, and if you want the digital i/o upgrade check out hoontech for details.

Well if we're going to be off topic and since I didn't really get to say my piece in Lukey's thread on General Hardware....

MX300!

All right, yes, the CPU utilization is higher. And no it doesn't have that (grrr) digital DIN so you'll only get analog sound if you get Cambridge FPS 2000 (and presumably the DTT 2500 as well) speakers.

I don't care! I love this card! Games sound fantastic and music sounds pretty darn good as well. The daughtercard for SPDIF is available.

The SBLive may have "class", but all you Creative owners can bite me...the MX300 is just plain cool!

I just needed to say that.
