    Maybe some of you will remember my 'numbers' I gave tombman in his "G400max, finally here but it is so slooooow" thread...

    For those of you who don't, here's the original post:

                Jammrock's Postulate on how to Calcualte the REAL Meaning of Life:

                If we take the meaning of life, 42, and add it to the 'other' meaning of life, 69, we get 111. Now we all know that the binary system of numbers uses only the digits 1 and 0(zero) and that the decimal system of number use the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Now, since the number 111 can be read as the decimal number, 111, or the binary number, 0111, this poses a rather interesting dilema, is the meaning of life a binary number or a decimal number.

                I will say that the 'true' meaning of life must be a binary number. Why, you may ask? The human exsistance is based entirely on 'evolution' and change. The decimal number system has been in place for millennia, and therefore is on the brink of becoming extinct. The binary system is quickly taking over. Computers run on binary calculations, math classes are teaching binary numbering almost worldwide and therefore the binary system is becoming the dominate numbering scheme; therefore, the meaning of life is 0111.

                Unfortunately though, today's society does not like to change as fast as life would have it. We must therefore convert the binary number to a decimal number for compatibilities sake. This makes the meaning of life, 0111, equal to the decimal number 7.

                Figure that one out.

                      Unfortunately, the answer is indeed 42, but what is the question?-- this makes us philosophers very happy-- wonderfully ambiguous-- open to so much interpretation!!

                      To find out what the question is we need a bigger computer-- a much bigger computer.

                      Does anyone else hear mice scurrying about?

                        I think I know why your life is so messed up
                        0111 is octal, my friend. It's 73 decimal.
                        Maybe the meaning of life is 111b, or it could just be 0x111 (273 decimal).

                        But, what if life is really signed. That makes 111b negative( -1, if I do the math correctly). Yikes. I hate being negative...
