  • Installed G400 -- no picture -- HELP !!

Ill be ten bucks it not seated..LOL !!
I finally got it to boot on the third try after swapping back & forth my old tnt cursing matrox like a frantic lunatic.. It seems it was out of wack about a 1/32 of an inch the first two times too. I was inspecting the contacts looking for defects...One more attempt and it seated perfectly, it booted..

If you were able to get into the bios, change your AGP aperture size to 256 then reboot. That should fix it,

      Now it works!!!

I have PhoenixBIOS (or something like that).

I plugged the old card back in, went to BIOS, loaded default settings, then turned off all the Power Management options, saved changes and that's it...

I plugged the G400 back in.. And it worked!!!

I tried *everything* before this.. and it was so simple..

Anyways, thanks so much people, you're always ready to help!

I love this card.. my first Matrox!! DVD plays real smooth, 3D looks just incredible (tried System Shock 2) compared to Voodoo2.

Now I know what you mean when you talk about Matrox quality!

      Bye and thanks again!!

Hi! This is my first post here after the troublesome username & password mix-up with GAGAMES's forum server.

I think many of us have the same problem with G400 unable to boot initially.
My AsusP5A rev1007 mobo + K6-2 448 (112x4@2.5v) with Award BIOS also did not boot with G400 first inserted into AGP slot, same one long beep follow by two short beeps, indicating video error. Only when clearing BIOS and setting back to default settings will system boot. Something wrong with ALL our Award BIOS + G400??!! :-D

GraphicsCard-related BIOS settings currently as follows:

        PCI/VGA Palette Snoop: Disabled
        Video ROM BIOS Shadow: Enabled
        Aperture Size: 256
        AGP Bus Turbo Mode: Enabled
        Frame Buffer Posted Write: Enabled
        VGA BIOS Sequence: AGP/PCI

One weird thing is that I have to set KeyBoard Clock Source Speed to max at 16MHz in BIOS to make my NEC black-color keyboard to work properly in Win98 and other games.

One more thing, PCI-List says G400 running at 1x only and Sandra also says 1x, so how do I make this baby run at AGP2x?
Any better ways to check whether my ALi V mobo is running G400 at AGP1x or 2x?? AGP Driver v1.60 is used and DirectX6.1 is installed.

        Thanx!!

          Installed G400 -- no picture -- HELP !!

Just got my G400DH (32 MB).

I plugged it in, started the computer.. Got one long beep followed by two short beeps, then nothing. No picture, and soon the monitor went to sleep mode.

Power off, power on.. Again the same. Then I switched the old card back, went to BIOS to see if there was something that need be changed.. I didn't find anything so I switched the G400 back in.. Power on.. no beeps, but no picture either. BIOS starts up the HD, but after that nothing happens.

The mobo is Intel AL440LX and the processor is Pentium II 300 MHz. With 64 MB of RAM.

Any ideas? What did those beeps mean?

check to make sure that the card is fully seated in the agp slot. you may have an obstrution. it sounds as if the card is not in all the way. some pepole were haveing problems with open dim slots on abit boards the same or simalar problems may exist on ohter main boards.

1 Long, then 2 Short Beeps: Video error

Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.

Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue.
              (From AWARD BIOS support)

Try to see if everything is plugged in correctly, if the problem doesn't go away, the videocard might be bad.
Good luck..this is definitely a painful problem.

                Brother Lucid,

Could also be the power supply? How much wattage do you have at the moment?

Strange problems occur when there is not enough power in the system. My wife's PC was driving me nuts (random crashes, failure to power on, etc) when I plugged in my old SoundBlaster 16 MCD. Changed her power supply from 230W to 300W and the problem went away.

                Good luck!
